Bonneville County burn ban remains in effect

  Published at

The following is a news release from the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office.

BONNEVILLE COUNTY — Fire danger is still very high throughout Bonneville County and we would like to remind everyone to be conscious of that. Areas affected by the recent Henry’s Creek Fire still have dry fuels and a team of firefighters continues to monitor that event. We want to remind the public that if they travel or camp near the fire affected areas to remember much of those lands are on private property and to respect those boundaries. Please stay on the main roads and DO NOT drive on temporary fire roads or dozer lines, you could be cited for trespassing.

Other areas of Bonneville County still have an abundance of dry grass and areas easily ignited by sparks, unattended camp fires, vehicle exhaust, etc. Be aware, the Bonneville County Commissioners have issued a temporary burn ban effective through October 25th, 2016 for all unincorporated areas of Bonneville County. This includes fireworks, open fires of ANY kind with the exception of campfires built within an improved fire pit and improved campgrounds or picnic areas, and smoking outside of a building, vehicle or developed recreational site. Farmers and Ranchers are required to get a permit for agricultural burning and can contact their individual Fire District and DEQ to apply for one. Please help us by adhering to those rules, and even if you are using a campfire at an approved site DO NOT leave it unattended. Make certain it is completely extinguished before you leave. You could be cited with a misdemeanor under county ordinance if found in violation of the Emergency Burn Ban.
