City of Rigby names a new police chief

RIGBY — A new police chief has been named for the city of Rigby.

Sam Tower, a detective with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, will take over the position effective Oct. 1.

“Last night we interviewed four candidates for the position and we voted to offer it to Sam,” Rigby Mayor Jason Richardson tells EastIdahoNews.com. “I approached Mr. Tower this evening and he agreed to accept the position.”

Richardson says all the applicants interviewed by the mayor and city council were qualified, but Tower was best suited to be the city’s top cop.

Tower takes the place of former police chief Keith Hammon, who was fired last month in a 6-0 vote. At the time, Hammond said he was “shocked” to learn he was being terminated.
