Update: Sheriff’s office identifies man killed in tractor-semi crash near Rexburg

Update (5:45 p.m.):
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office has identified the driver of the tractor as Sam Davis, 64, of St. Anthony. Davis was pronounced dead at EIRMC.

Victor Lopez, 56, of Idaho Falls, was driving the semi-truck.

The sheriff’s office said its initial investigation shows the semi hit the tractor from the rear as it was traveling south.

Update (3 p.m.):

The operator of the farm tractor died after he was flown from the scene, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Bruce Bowler said. He was 64 years old and was an east Idaho local. His name has not been released.

The semi-truck driver was taken by private vehicle to Madison Memorial Hospital, Bowler said.

Authorities have not released the cause of the crash due to the ongoing investigation.

Southbound lanes were set to reopen around 3 p.m.

REXBURG — A man driving a tractor was badly hurt in a crash at Rexburg’s north exit Wednesday morning.

The crash involved a semi-truck and a tractor and occurred around 11 a.m. The driver of the tractor was taken by air ambulance to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

“In a tragic event like this our heart goes out to everybody that is involved we’ll do our best to do a thorough investigation,” said Madison County Sheriff Roy Klingler.

As of 12:20 p.m., southbound traffic was blocked as authorities investigated the crash.
