The following is a news release from Bonneville Joint School District 93.

BONNEVILLE COUNTY — The wait is over and we now know the new name and mascot for D93’s new high school. The Board of Trustees adopted the recommendation of the High School Naming Committee to name the school Black Canyon High School with the mascot of Phantoms.

The committee was made up of students, a teacher, an administrator, and several parents from the community surrounding the new school. They each contributed ideas to the group. The process was also aided by a tremendous response on social media.

“We met together and hashed it out, hammered it out, and we ended up with the Black Canyon Phantoms with the colors of black, silver, and royal blue, and we couldn’t be more excited about it,” said Doug McLaren, BCHS Principal.

Black Canyon High School is scheduled to open in late summer of 2018.
