Pocatello man arrested for drugs has ties to Guns N Gear burglary

POCATELLO — After a recent arrest of a Pocatello man, police discovered the suspect may have ties to a gun store burglary in Idaho Falls last month. The suspect is someone PPD has been watching for a while. Police moved in on him last week. They say they found large amounts of drugs and cash, including a silver bar worth $600. But another find is even more curious, a gun reported stolen last month in Idaho Falls.

Korey Meyer is just one of many drug related arrests in Pocatello. Captain Roger Schei is the Captain of the Investigations Division at Pocatello’s Police Department.

“This is someone we’ve been looking for, for a while. We got in a pursuit with them. We knew that this person was involved in some drug activity, and we’ve been watching trying to catch him,” Schei tells KPVI.

But what stands out about this 25-year-old? He was recently arrested and charged with drug trafficking and possessing stolen property. Schei says, “We found a stolen gun, which actually came back from the burglary at Guns N Gear in Idaho Falls, and it was an HK 45.”

Last month Rexburg Police arrested Travis Castro, in relation to the gun store burglary in Idaho Falls. He’s accused of stealing 16 guns at the time of his arrest, police only found four. “It’s being able to disseminate which stuff was from burglaries and who they’re tied into. Who the suspects are and putting two and two together,” Schei says.

Detectives are now looking into Meyer’s and Castro’s relationship, “People will trade property for narcotics. They kind of use that as their currency,” Schei says.

Pocatello Police say arresting Meyer and other drug traffickers in the area is not only a win for the department, but mainly for the community. Schei says, “Following leads completing their investigation, completing their reports, and logging evidence that all takes time and they’re doing a great job at doing it. It means our streets are safer.”

Meyer is scheduled to be in court for his felony charges in October.
