CHUBBUCK — A Chubbuck man is facing burglary charges after police say he discovered a unique way to steal from a local store. Police say they discovered what happened through surveillance video. It’s an unusual crime that now has store employees on the lookout.

Local stores will now have to be on high alert when customers come in to return an item. Local resident, Terry Bartschi says, “It makes it harder for the rest of us when we go to return something.”

Chubbuck Police recently arrested Logan Pack for felony burglary. Police say he pocketed discarded receipts. Then they believe he went into the store, took items listed on the receipts from the shelf, and returned them at the counter.

“I’m a little surprised at this fellow go after finding old receipts in places then going and doing that,” Bartschi said.

KPVI obtained the police report, which revealed that Logan Pack came in the home improvement store at least four times and left the premises with $300 in merchandise.

Local mall shopper Tina Vorwaller says, “I was like ‘Wow, who thinks of stuff… like to do that. Cause an average person doesn’t think of things like that to do to rip off stores, and try to get money back for stuff they didn’t buy.”

Police say the 22-year-old admitted to one of the four reported burglaries. Pack claims he doesn’t remember the others. When questioned about where he found the receipts, Pack said he got them from his father.

Beverly Hammerland, a local mall shopper says, “It’s pretty sad that someone would stoop that low and do that.”

As for for local customers, when returning an item they say they’re going to make sure store employees see them when they walk in. Vorwaller says, “I’m glad he got caught. Too bad it didn’t happen sooner, but I’m glad he’s where he’s supposed to be right now. I’m just shocked that he got away for that long, its crazy what people do.

Pack is expected to appear in court on his four felony charges later this month.
