Eaton: Thanks for your kindness

  Published at  | Updated at

I just got off the phone with Nate Sunderland and he asked that I express his thanks to all of you.

Your thoughts, prayers and kind messages over the weekend (and the past few weeks) have made a big difference as he has dealt with the biggest challenge of his life.

Nate is exhausted following his heart transplant yesterday but when I asked how he’s doing, he responded, “I feel good. I have a heart that works.”

He has received so many kind offers from our EastIdahoNews.com users and Facebook friends. One of you volunteered to make him a quilt. Another offered to babysit. Many of you have said you’d like to provide a meal to his family. Thank you.

And a special thanks to other media organizations who have sent well-wishes and written stories about Nate. One of the first emails we received was from the news director at KPVI saying Nate is in their prayers.

Reporters at The Post Register and The Standard Journal have kindly written about Nate’s health struggles and mentioned a GoFundMe that has been set up for his family to pay for medical and other expenses.

Nate now begins a different set of health challenges as his body adjusts to a new heart. We’re optimistic that his recovery will be smooth and he’ll be back to work soon – writing and providing news to the best audience any organization could ever want.
