REXBURG– A GoFundMe account has been established for a 16-year-old girl who died following a house fire Wednesday morning.

Monica Franco attended Madison High School and was a reporter with the Bobcat Beat school newspaper.

The Madison Fire Department responded to Franco’s home at 919 S. 5th W. around 8:30 a.m. and discovered Monica unconscious inside the house. Emergency workers performed CPR and the teenager was rushed to Madison Memorial Hospital where she died.

“The world lost a very sweet, beautiful, loving young woman today and left a family devestated beyond words,” the GoFundMe page reads. “The Franco’s had a house fire and they have lost their worldy possessions but worse, their youngest daughter Monica. At 16, she was the baby of the family. They have lost so much that can never be replaced.”

Madison School District #321 posted the following message on its Facebook page Wednesday:

As a district, we are mourning the loss of one of our students today. We express our deepest condolences to her family and friends at this time. We hope that the community will rally around this family in their time of great need.

We realize that grief and loss are hard emotions to navigate for all individuals, especially children and youth. If you have a student who may need help processing and coping with these feelings, we have clinicians on standby. To access these services, call Madison Cares at 359-3300 or contact the office of your child’s school.

The organizer of the GoFundMe page says all money raised will go toward funeral expenses and “to help [the family] in any way possible.”
