BONNEVILLE COUNTY — A man was arrested for attempted strangulation after an argument on Riverview Drive on Sunday night.

The sheriff’s office said they responded for a report of a physical domestic incident between a man and woman around 9:20 p.m. Deputies found the pair had been arguing over their relationship, and at one point the man, later identified as Matthew LaCarte, 36, had his hands around the woman’s neck.

During the argument, an adult child of the female attempted to intervene, and LaCarte placed him in a headlock for a few moments, deputies said. All parties had separated by the time law enforcement arrived.

When they contacted LaCarte, he complained of injuries, and he was transported to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center by ambulance, where he was checked and released. Deputies then arrested LaCarte, and he was booked into the Bonneville County Jail for felony attempted strangulation and misdemeanor battery.

The 36-year-old woman refused medical treatment, and no other injuries were reported.
