Local man installs cameras after thieves target home five times

POCATELLO — A local man says he’s fed up with thieves targeting his home. He’s been burglarized many times and, in the latest incident, he caught the culprit on camera.

It happened on Oct. 11 a little before 1 a.m. Surveillance video shows a man walking right up to Evan Karlson’s driveway and stealing two storage bags off of his four-wheeler.

“He drove right to the place,” Karlson told KPVI. “If this was the first time, I’d think, ‘OK, it happens.’ But this is the fifth time this has happened to us … in this house.”

Karlson has lived in his home for 13 years.

After the third theft, the Karlson family installed surveillance cameras around their home, thinking it would prevent any more attempts.

“It’s really paid off because we do have it on video now,” Karlson said. “The reason why I came to the media is hoping that we could put it out there and let people know that there are surveillance systems out there.”

It’s been more than a week since the theft and Karlson is highly frustrated. He has a message for the thief.

“Give the stuff back, and I won’t press charges, but stop what you’re doing,” Karlson said. “It’s going to put you down a bad road, you’re gonna end up in jail, and that’s not a good future for you.”

Karlson’s reported the thefts to Pocatello police and detectives tells KPVI it’s still an active investigation.
