Southeast Idaho man killed in Franklin County crash

The following is a news release from Idaho State Police.

PRESTON — Idaho State Police are investigating a two-vehicle, fatality crash northbound on State Highway 34 at milepost 12, one mile south of Riverdale.

The accident occurred at about 10:45 a.m. Monday.

Ivan Mott, 44, of Weston, was southbound on SH-34 at milepost 12 in a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban. Robert Newswander, 49, of Hyde Park, Utah, was northbound on SH-34 at milepost 12 in a 2015 Ram pickup pulling a flatbed trailer. The Chevrolet crossed into the northbound lanes and struck the front driver’s side of the Ram pickup.

Ivan Mott and his passenger Jonathan Mott, 18, of Weston, were both transported to Franklin County Medical Center in Preston by ground ambulance. Ivan Mott was wearing his seatbelt; Jonathan was not. Ivan Mott succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Neither Newswander nor his passenger Ernesto Mariscal-Farias, 39, of Clifton, were transported. Both were wearing their seatbelts.

The road was partially blocked for approximately four hours. Next of kin has been notified.
