POCATELLO — A man was arrested after leaving a preschool-aged child alone in a vehicle in 40-degree weather while having drinks at a bar.

Robert C. Faulkner, 27, was arrested Saturday by Pocatello Police after officers found an approximately 4-year-old child wandering a parking lot around 9 p.m.

According to a police news release, officers responded to the area of 300 North Union Pacific after receiving a report of a child wandering unattended. Witnesses told police that just prior to their arrival, a male exited a bar and put the child back in a vehicle and then went back into the bar.

Pocatello Police spokesman Lt. Ian Nelson said the vehicle was not turned on when the child was placed into it.

Officers were able to contact the child and then called the child’s mother who said Faulkner was supposed to be babysitting the child. It is unclear what the relationship between the mother and Faulkner was.

Officers found Faulkner and he was subsequently taken into custody for the incident.

Faulkner was booked into the Bannock County Detention Center for one count of misdemeanor injury to a child.
