Early voting down in Jefferson County

  Published at

The following is a news release from Jefferson County.

RIGBY — Although lines were long at times, early voting in Jefferson County was down slightly from the last Presidential election four years ago.

A total of 1,198 early, or absentee, ballots were requested in the weeks leading up to today’s election, down from 2,030 four years ago, according to Elections Administrator Shonna Allred. Not all have been returned, but voters have until 8 p.m. to get them in.

“I believe we will still see strong numbers of voters today,” Allred said. “Some precincts reported lines of voters forming before the polls opened this morning.”

Jefferson County has about 13,400 registered voters, separated into 17 precincts. Polls are open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

As with the Primary elections, Jefferson County will begin posting results on the county’s website and social media beginning with absentee results at 9 p.m. Other results will follow as precincts report in. The courthouse is open to the public as results are made available.
