Hundreds of stolen items recovered by Rexburg Police

REXBURG — Police are hoping to return what they believe to be stolen property, but they don’t know who it belongs too.

Police discovered a wide variety of items in a storage unit used by Klint Huffman, a man police were investigating after he was caught allegedly trespassing in someone’s garage.

Police reports show 20-year-old Huffman was caught looking through a woman’s garage on Nov. 7. The woman called police to report the suspicious person.

Police arrived and later discovered the Rexburg man had allegedly broken into other garages in the area. Huffman was arrested for felony burglary and felony possession of a controlled substance.

Police say they received several theft reports that day and one after another they were able to connect them to Huffman.

During the course of their investigation, police learned Huffman had access to a storage unit at Safe-T-Stor near the 1200 block of South Railroad Ave. in Rexburg.

Securing enough probable cause, police obtained a search warrant for the storage unit.

“When the door was open it was a shock,” Rexburg Police Captain Randy Lewis told EastIdahoNews.com. “We were really surprised to see all the stuff in there, which was very neatly organized.”

Court records show there were hundreds of items found in the storage unit.

“We want to get the word out there, if you’ve had something stolen from your car or garage, we might have it here for you and we want you to have your stuff back.” Lewis told EastIdahoNews.com.

Lewis went on to say that they are working with other agencies like Fremont County and Bonneville County to identify potentially stolen items.

If you recognize items in the photos, the Rexburg Police Department asks that you call and ask to speak to a detective, or you can email them at rpd@rexburg.org. The patrol office number is (208) 359-3008.
