IDAHO FALLS– One local car dealership is helping a regional non-profit feed the hungry this Thanksgiving by providing them with a greater selection of food.

“Wackerli Auto Center has brought us a very generous donation of food to help us get through this holiday time, and to expand the amount of food that we’re able to give,” Community Food Basket Executive Director Bud Langerak said.

Members of the Wackerli crew helped facilitate the arrival of donations to the Community Food Basket-Idaho Falls. The food was donated and delivered through Broulims.

“We had the help of Broulims. We’ve donated a bunch of canned goods, stuffings, things for the holiday season that can be used for the Thanksgiving meal,” Wackerli spokeswoman Shasta Howard said.

About $500 worth of items was donated to the community food basket. Administrators said this generous donation will help them give more food to families in need.

“This time of year is very difficult on families and those that have been struggling struggle even more during this time of year whether it be the extra cost of a jacket, or gloves for the kids,” Langerak said.

Langerak said the food basket donates to almost one thousand families per month. Almost 50 percent of the individuals being served are under 18.

“We average about 850 families a month. That’s about 3,500 individuals and somewhere between 40 and 42 percent of those individuals we serve are under 18 years old,” Langerak said.

Langerak said the he’s grateful to Wackerli and other local companies for donating to the food basket this holiday season.
