ST. ANTHONY — A treasure hunter was rescued near Red Road in Fremont County on Tuesday.

Authorities say at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, Fremont County Sheriff’s dispatch informed search and rescue of a stranded treasure hunter high-centered on some rocks, northwest of Split Rock, off Red Road, according to a news release.

The 58-year-old Parker man had been searching for items with his metal detector in one of his favorite areas.

He chose to return home on a road that he hadn’t traveled before and was unfamiliar with, according to the news release. At some point during his drive home, he was forced to maneuver over a large rock pile. While attempting to do so his vehicle bottomed out, causing it to become high-centered on the frame.

The man called 911 and using coordinates from his call the Fremont County Search and Rescue located him at around 9:15 p.m.

Searchers freed his vehicle from the rock pile and led him back to Red Road. From there he continued home.

He was uninjured.
