Man with terminal brain tumor meets players of NY Giants team

IDAHO FALLS — A local man was more than surprised when he was gifted tickets to a New York Giants game last week. It was an even bigger surprise when he got to meet players on the team.

“The experience was just amazing. This is more than what I (and) my husband expected,” Mayan Woolf said.

Nate Woolf, a 38-year-old man suffering with a terminal brain tumor, flew to Pittsburgh with his wife, Mayan for a New York Giants vs. Pittsburgh Steelers game on Dec. 4.

Originally Nate’s nephew Jack Becker had written a letter to the Giants hoping Nate would be able to meet the team — but he didn’t get a response. Instead local businesses Money Wise, a financial services company, and Teton Health Care surprised him with tickets to the game.

“The trip turned out really, really well,” Mayan said.

The couple was prepared to sit in their assigned seats, but when they got to the stadium they were given field passes and were able to meet the players. A representative from the New York Giants did however see Jack’s letter and arranged for Nate to have a special meeting on the field.

“Everybody in the stadium was so nice to us,” Mayan said. “We were on the field for an hour, we were sitting on the sidelines.”

Nate met New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., as well as tackles Adam Gettis, and Justin Pugh.

“Beckham came up to him and gave him a hug and said something to him, he was just so happy,” Mayan said.

Nate isn’t able to speak due to his condition, but Mayan said he was thrilled and has had a permanent smile on his face since the game.

“My husband was so, so, so happy. He won’t stop smiling. It made me cry,” Mayan said. “I wish he could tell me what Beckham told him though.”

The game ended with a score of 14 Giants to 24 Steelers. Although their team didn’t win, Mayan and Nate said they had the trip of a lifetime.

“I just want to say thank you once again to the people at Money Wise, family and friends, and to Teton Pharmacy and Home Health. I just want to make sure that they know we are so grateful for this trip,” Mayan said.
