SHELLEY — After weeks of competing the results are finally in — and a local teen will get the chance to sing the national anthem during the country’s largest cattle trade show next year.

Sage Patchin, a 16-year-old from Shelley, had been in the runnings to sing the national anthem at the 2017 Cattle Industry Annual Convention in Nashville, Tennessee. On Nov. 26 she was announced the official winner with more than 10,000 online votes.

“Even people that I didn’t know were voting for me everyday,” Patchin said.

Patchin won by some 1,000 votes. She competed against vocalists from Montana, Colorado and Texas.

She is set to sing in numerous events at the trade show: The Opening General Session of the 2017 Cattle Industry Convention, the Grand Ole Opry event and National Cattlemen’s Beef Association’s Board Meeting.

“The main event is the Friday night event at the Grand Ole Opry and that’s what I’m really excited for,” Patchin said.

The trade show is set to take place next February.

“I feel really thankful that there are so many amazing people that are willing to support me and vote for me,” she said.
