Trash can fire causes minor damage to Ammon home
Published atAMMON — A trash can fire caused minor damage to a local home early Sunday morning.
The Ammon Fire Department responded to 2020 South Falcon Drive at about 1 a.m. after a neighbor reported a trash can next to the home was on fire.
Assistant Chief Keith Banda said the fire was caused by hot ashes from a wood burning fireplace that was placed in the can.
The trash can was completely destroyed, and the vinyl siding on a section of the home near the can melted. There was also smoke damage inside the home.
The Ucon Fire Department, Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office and Idaho Falls EMS also responded to the scene.
The occupants of the home were checked out by EMS. No one was injured in the fire.
The Ammon Fire Department recommends hot ashes be placed inside a metal container, doused with water and allowed to cool for several days before placing them inside a trash can.
