IDAHO FALLS — The third annual Idaho Day Celebration, hosted by the Bonneville County Heritage Association, will be held Friday, March 3, at the Colonial Theater in Idaho Falls, Idaho. The public is encouraged to attend, and admission is free.

This year’s theme will be “Beautiful Idaho.” The program, which begins at 7 p.m., will recognize state and county heroes with plaques being awarded to recipients. Recognition is designed to be educational and engaging for local families, said BCHA chairperson Ann Rydalch.

“Making time to learn about the heritage and history of our state and county, as well as the people, is important for our heritage and values to continue into the future,” Rydalch said.

Festivities begin early, with a silent auction accepting bids from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Attendees are invited to bid on items donated by local merchants, and proceeds benefit BCHA programs and events.

Each year area students are invited to participate in a contest demonstrating state pride in a variety of mediums. Submissions and projects will be on display in the Carr Gallery starting at 5:30 p.m., and winners will be announced as part of the Idaho Day program.

For entertainment, the Idaho Old Time Fiddlers will provide prelude from 6 to 7 p.m., and patriotic numbers will be sung by Sage Patchin, who recently won a national contest to perform “The Star-Spangled Banner” for the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association annual convention in Nashville, Tennessee. Idaho Falls School District 91 fourth graders will present music throughout the program under the direction of Jennifer Korenke-Stanger.

During the 2014 session, the Idaho legislature established Idaho Day to be commemorated annually on March 4, the date President Abraham Lincoln created the state in 1863. Though not a legal holiday, Idaho Day is an annual celebration based on legislation authored by former state representative and BCHA member Linden Bateman encouraging Idahoans to celebrate state heritage.
