Former ISU employee charged with embezzling more than $100,000

POCATELLO — A former employee of Idaho State University is facing more than a decade in prison if convicted of allegedly embezzling over $100,000 from the school.

Tyler Liddle, a former employee for ISU’s Student Affairs department, has been charged with misusing public funds by a public officer or employee, which is a felony offense.

Probable cause was determined by Judge Bryan Murray and Bannock County issued an arrest warrant for Liddle on Feb. 28 with a bond of $50,000.

If convicted, Liddle faces a fine of up to $10,000 and up to 14 years in state prison. Authorities said he would also have to pay restitution of more than $100,000.

Liddle’s arrest warrant was quashed on Thursday, meaning that he had essentially turned himself in but wouldn’t be booked into the Bannock County Jail. The quashing of an arrest warrant can only be done by appearing directly at the courthouse and meeting with an arraignment judge, according to Bannock County Prosecutor Steve Herzog.

“While he was employed at ISU he had a job somewhere he was handling money,” Herzog said. “Over the course of four years, he allegedly misappropriated over $100,000.”

Liddle was not booked into the Bannock County Jail after meeting with the arraignment judge Thursday. Herzog said it’s assumed Liddle was released on his own recognizance.

According to court documents, Liddle retained attorney Shawn Anderson for representation and is due back in court for a preliminary hearing on March 29.

Liddle left his job at ISU in 2016 and Herzog said he believes ISU discovered the missing funds after conducting an audit.

University officials said that they’re aware of the charge against Liddle but ISU policy is not to comment on pending legal matters.
