UPDATE: Two transported to hospital after crash on Hitt Road

The following is a news release from the Idaho State Police.

At approximately 4:10 p.m. Thursday, Idaho State Police investigated a three-vehicle injury crash near the intersection of U.S. Highway 26 and Hitt Road in Idaho Falls.

Shawn G. Griffiths, 52, of Idaho Falls, was driving a 1998 Dodge Caravan. Dennis L. Kalco, 51, of Idaho Falls, was driving a 2015 Ford F150 pickup. Sarah A. Smith, 21, of Rexburg, was driving a 1995 Chevy Corsica.

Griffiths attempted to make a left turn from westbound US26 onto Hitt Road but failed to yield to Kalco, who was traveling eastbound on US26. Griffiths turned in front of Kalco, and Kalco’s vehicle struck Griffiths’ vehicle. Griffiths’ vehicle then struck Smith’s vehicle, which was stopped northbound on Hitt Road.

Both Griffiths and Kalco were transported via ground ambulance to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls. Griffiths and Smith were wearing seat belts; Kalco was not.

The northbound lane of travel on Hitt Road was blocked for approximately two and a half hours while the crash was being investigated.

IDAHO FALLS — Idaho State Police are investigating a three-vehicle injury crash at the intersection of Hitt Road and Yellowstone Highway (U.S. Highway 26).

Officials tell EastIdahoNews.com that a van was struck by a truck in the intersection around 4 p.m.

The drivers of both vehicles were transported to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center by ground ambulance with unknown injuries.

The accident is under investigation.
