State: 12-Year-Old Must Pay Sales Tax on Fruit Stand

(POCATELLO, ID) – The Idaho State Tax Commission is forcing a 12-year-old Pocatello boy to collect sales tax on a makeshift fruit stand he was operating over the summerTayson Weeks started selling raspberries in order to pay for a motorcycle he wanted. However, on the second day of selling the juicy berries, the state came calling, giving Weeks a deadline of October 15 to pay up. State authorities maintain that they’re only trying to be fair to other small business owners in the area who run similar operations.
