It’s “Free Movie Night” with romantic comedy/drama “Bird in the Air” playing Thursday, May 23, at 6:00 and 8:15 p.m. at the Bengal Theater in the Pond Student Union. A man in search of his past, and a woman who lives in the moment, are brought together when they pursue the origins of a stray parrot, an adventure that sends them on a heartfelt journey of self-discovery. Film Forward Magazine calls the film, “A lovely little modern screwball comedy that only hard-hearted cynics will resist,” while the Los Angeles Times adds that it’s an “involving character dramedy with a pair of appealing leads who help give this offbeat movie flight.” (Rated PG-13) All are welcome. Complete with a working carousel that visitors can ride, the exhibition will present some of the finest and rarest artifacts to be found in the world of carousels.
Comprised of more than 100 carousel figures, this exhibition will present an overview of the history of carousel carving companies and styles and evolving stages of development in the world. Subsections of the project discuss exotic animal figures, the armored horses, farm animals, patriotic themes, chariots, rare and unusual figure carving, the importance of restoration and preservation, and a look at the science behind the engines, gears and motion. January 25 through May 27.

Personal Finance Educator, Luke Erickson, of University of Idaho Extension, is offering a “Fight Back” financial series in locations throughout Eastern Idaho. The series consist of three, one-hour classes that focus on three important financial topics. The first hour addresses the top ten scams 2013 that target seniors, the second hour expands on the widespread and pervasive risk of identity theft, and the third hour expands of the previous two classes by teaching how to protect and build your credit.
One participant from a previous class shared, “The information from these classes is so valuable.” Another participant shared, “This was well worth it. I’m glad I came.”
Each of these topics is covered in 50 minute sessions with 10 minute breaks between sessions. Each session costs $3 to attend, OR attend all three for only $6! Low-income scholarships are available.

World Heritage Student Exchange Program, a highly respected, non-profit, public-benefit organization is seeking local host families from Blackfoot, Idaho Falls, and Pocatello for high school boys and girls from Scandinavia, France, Germany, Italy, Thailand, China, South Korea, and former Soviet Republics. Students are already waiting word on their host families for the 2013-2014 school year.Host families provide room, board, and guidance for a teen living thousands of miles from home. Couples, single parents and families with or without children in the home are all encouraged to apply.
