Lane Kiffin To Remain At Alabama

Lane Kiffin To Remain At Alabama Stephen Dunn/Getty Images(TUSCALOOSA,Al.) -- After revolutionizing the Crimson Tide passing attack in 2014, Lane Kiffin will return as Alabama's offensive coordinator in 2015. The University announced Saturday that Kiffin would return after leading the Crimson Tide to the 9th ranked offense in the country. Kiffin had been a top candidate for the San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator position, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. "We're very pleased and happy that Lane is going to be staying here at the University of Alabama with us," coach Nick Saban said via Twitter. "He's done a fabulous job and is one of the finest offensive coaches in the country. He is going to have plenty of opportunities in the future and we want to continue to help him develop as a coach so when he leaves here, he'll be in a very good situation. Our offense was extremely productive last season and we look forward to building on some of the good things we did on that side of the ball with this year's team." Alabama's offensive skill players exploded under Kiffin's guidance. Wide receiver Amari Cooper was a Heisman Trophy finalist after catching 124 passes for 1,727 and 16 touchdowns.  “After being here for a year, I can see why this is such a special place in terms of the history, tradition, and how much football means to everyone at Alabama," Kiffin said. "I also have learned so much in the time I’ve spent with Coach Saban and really have a better understanding of what makes him the great coach that he is. I think the more time I can spend learning from him, the better coach I will be in the future.” Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright © 2015, ABC Radio. All rights reserved.

Elliott Runs Ohio State Past Alabama and into the National Title Game

Elliott Runs Ohio State Past Alabama and into the National Title Game Chris Graythen/Getty Images(NEW ORLEANS) -- Ezekiel Elliott rushed for a Sugar Bowl-Record 230 yards and three touchdowns to help No. 4 Ohio State upset top-ranked Alabama 42-35 Thursday, to advance to the National Title game. "He's probably the most underrated back in the United States," Coach Urban Meyer said of Elliott. Alabama (12-2) took an 21-6 lead early in the second quarter when T.J. Yeldon ran for a two-yard touchdown. But Ohio State never lost its composure, scoring two touchdowns in the final three minutes of the quarter and headed into halftime down one. The Buckeyes started off the second half the way they ended the first with Cardale Jones connecting with Devin Smith on a 47-yard touchdown bomb to take the lead. Ohio State looked like it finished off the game when Elliott dashed for an 85-yard touchdown run with 3:24 to play. But Alabama answered right back when Blake Sims connected with Amari Cooper on a six-yard touchdown making the score 42-35 with 1:59 to go. The Crimson Tide defense then proceeded to force the Buckeyes into a three-and-out to get the ball back with 1:33 remaining. But their hope for victory was dashed when Tyvis Powell intercepted Sims' pass with time expiring to seal the game. "I'm proud of this team," Alabama head coach Nick Saban said. "They excelled all year long and kept Alabama at the forefront of college football." Ohio State (13-1) will now take on No. 2 Oregon (13-1) on Jan. 12 for the National Championship.   Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright © 2015, ABC Radio. All rights reserved.

Crimson Tide Dash Bulldogs Undefeated Hopes

Crimson Tide Dash Bulldogs Undefeated Hopes American Football Field Yard Lines IStockPhoto/ Thinkstock(TUSCALOOSA, Al.) -- Alabama handed Mississippi State their first loss of the season Saturday as the Crimson Tide won a tight one 25-20. Alabama confused and stymied Dak Prescott all game as they contained the dual threat quarterback and forced him into costly mistakes. Prescott threw three interceptions on the day, none more costly than a pick thrown late in the third quarter.  The Bulldogs had marched down to the Alabama 15 yard line, trailing by 13. Prescott forced a pass to his left and Crimson Tide corner Cyrus Jones was waiting on the pass: stealing possession of the ball. Alabama's offense was methodical. The Tide ran for 124 yards and threw for 211 yards; 88 of which were caught by star wide receiver Amari Cooper. He also added a touchdown reception.  T.J. Yeldon ground out 72 yards on 16 carries and punched in a touchdown.  The loss certainly comes at a bad time for Mississippi State as the college football regular season winds down and four teams will be selected for college football's inaugural playoff. The win will boost Alabama's chances of contending once again for the grand prize of collegiate football.     Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

(5) Alabama Outlasts (16) LSU in Overtime

(5) Alabama Outlasts (16) LSU in Overtime American Football Field Yard Lines IStockPhoto/ Thinkstock(BATON ROUGE, La.) -- It was another battle to remember as 5th-ranked Alabama survived against 16th-rated Louisiana State (LSU), winning 20-13 in overtime at Tiger Stadium on Saturday night. The Crimson Tide (8-1) rallied twice for the win, keeping their playoff hopes alive. The Tigers (7-3) kept Alabama off the scoreboard for the entire first quarter, while taking a 7-0 lead when Anthony Jennings found Malachi Dupre for a 14-yard touchdown pass. LSU's defense continued to be dominant until Blake Sims connected with Amari Cooper for a game-tying 23-yard score. Alabama then took the lead on a field goal with nine seconds to play before the half. Both offenses struggled to break through in the second half with LSU tying the game on a field goal in the third quarter, the lone score of the frame. The Tigers then went up 13-10 on Colby Delahoussaye's 39-yard field goal with 50 seconds left in regulation. With the game seemingly in hand, Delahoussaye shanked the ensuing kickoff out of bounds, giving Alabama the ball on their own 35-yard line. Sims then led the Crimson Tide down to LSU's 10 before relying on Adam Griffith to send the game into overtime. Griffith converted on a 27-yard field goal and Sims hit DeAndrew White on a 6-yard fade route in overtime to take the lead. On LSU's possession, Jennings scrambled on fourth down but his pass into the end zone was knocked to the turf. The win, coupled with Auburn's loss at Texas A&M, puts Alabama alone in second place in the SEC West. Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Saban: Rivarly with Vols Is ‘Special’

Saban: Rivarly with Vols Is ‘Special’ Istockphoto(TUSCALOOSA, Ala.) -- Fourth ranked Alabama (6-1) is expecting everything they can handle against Tennessee (3-4) on Saturday. Alabama head coach Nick Saban called the game this week "one of the great rivalry games in college football. [It] certainly has a lot of tradition and something that's been very special and means a lot to a lot of our fans." The Vols are still searching for their first win in the SEC after losing three straight in their conference matchups. Tennessee's defense has allowed 21.3 points per game this season and Alabama's offense is averaging 36.9. "They're big, they're physical up front, a very typical Alabama offensive line," Tennessee coach Butch Jones said. "I think they're playing to the strengths of their players. They did a lot of quick screens, a lot of dual packages where you have the run and the pass option off of it. I think they're doing a great job." The game also will be the return of Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin, who left Tennessee after a 7-6 season in 2009, which caused rioting on campus. "The game is not about that," Saban said. "The game is about the players and regardless of what fans think or what fans do, I think our coaches and our players need to focus on what we're going to do in the game and how we're going to help our players play our best." The seventh-ranked team in the country put up 602 total yards while keeping the Aggies from even attempting a field goal. "I think this is as close as we can get to the Alabama football that we want to try to get from our players in terms of effort, toughness, emotional excitement and execution that we got throughout the game," said head coach Nick Saban. Alabama (6-1) scored on ever possession in the first half, opening up the scoring on an Adam Griffith field goal in the first quarter. The first touchdown came a few minutes later when T.J. Yeldon scampered in from nine yards out. Yeldon finished the game with two running touchdowns and 114 yards on the ground. Quarterback Blake Sims through for 268 yards, three touchdowns and ran for another score. Reserve Jake Coker also threw a touchdown pass late for the Crimson Tide. Both Amari Cooper and Derrick Henry had a pair of receiving touchdowns in the blowout. While the offense dismantled Texas A&M (5-3), the defense was as impressive. The Aggies only managed 172 total yards en route to their third straight loss. Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Alabama Loses RB Drake for at Least 8-10 Weeks

Alabama Loses RB Drake for at Least 8-10 Weeks istockphoto(TUSCALOOSA, Ala.) -- Alabama lost more than a football game last Saturday: running back Kenyan Drake has suffered a broken leg in the team's 23-17 loss at Ole Miss. Alabama head Coach Nick Saban says it will be 8-10 more weeks before Drake can even think about playing football again. Losing Drake means the Crimson Tide loses versatility. Drake has rushed for 126 yards and four touchdowns while also catching four balls for 145 yards and two touchdowns this season."Kenyan has a lot of production for us and has done a really good job all year long," Saban said. "I don't think there's any question about the fact that when you do lose a player like that it does have some impact. No. 7 Alabama (4-1, 1-1 SEC) will play Arkansas in Fayetteville on Saturday. (11) Mississippi Knocks Off (3) Alabama at Home Stacy Revere/Getty Images(OXFORD, Miss.) -- In what could go down as the greatest win in school history, No. 11 Ole Miss knocked off third ranked Alabama at home on Saturday, 23-17. The victory snapped a 10-game losing streak to the Crimson Tide (4-1) while also keeping Mississippi (5-0) undefeated. The Rebels took an early 3-0 lead on a Gary Wunderlich field goal in the first quarter, but Alabama responded with a touchdown drive in the second. As Ole Miss looked to take the game into halftime trailing 7-3, I'Tavius Mathers fumbled at the 13-yard line while the Tide recovered it for a touchdown and a 14-3 halftime advantage. However, the comeback was on in the second half. Trailing 17-10 midway through the fourth, Bo Wallace connected with Vince Sanders on a 34-yard touchdown pass to tie the game with 5:29 left in regulation. Mississippi quickly got a chance at the lead when Alabama fumbled the ensuing the kickoff and Ole Miss recovered.  Just a couple plays later, Wallace found Jaylen Walton from 10 yards out, giving the Rebels a 23-17 lead with 2:54 remaining. Alabama threatened to steal the upset away, driving into Ole Miss territory in the waning moments. Crimson Tide quarterback Blake Sims fired a deep pass into the endzone with 37 seconds left, but Senquez Golson picked it off to seal the victory. It marks the first time since 1962 that Mississippi has won the first five games of a season.  Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Alabama Picked to Win SEC Streeter Lecka/Getty Images(HOOVER, Ala.) -- Despite not even reaching the national championship game last year, SEC media members selected Alabama as the preseason favorite to win the conference this college football season. The poll was revealed on Thursday, the final of four SEC media days. It showed what was a surprise to no one: Alabama vs. Auburn for the conference title. The Crimson Tide (154) earned more votes than every other Southeastern Conference school combined. Auburn (75), South Carolina (32), Georgia (19), and LSU (9) rounded out the top 5. "Arguably, they've got the greatest collection of football players ever assembled for a college team," said South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier.
