Boudreau Agrees To Contract Extension With Anaheim Ducks

Boudreau Agrees To Contract Extension With Anaheim Ducks

Comstock/Thinkstock(ANAHEIM, Calif.) — The Anaheim Ducks and head coach Bruce Boudreau agreed to a two-year contract extension through the 2016-17 season on Wednesday. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

In two-plus seasons with the Ducks, Boudreau has compiled a record of 111-55-22, capturing the past two Pacific Division crowns. Last season, they lost in seven games to the Los Angeles Kings in the Western Conference semifinals.

“It certainly means a lot,” Boudreau said about his contract extension on a conference call. “It means the Ducks organization has faith in me leading this team. That’s important going forward. That’s what it really means to me.”

Boudreau previously was the head coach of the Washington Capitals (2007-11).

Selanne Likely Calling it a Career

Selanne Likely Calling it a Career

Anaheim Ducks/NHL(ANAHEIM, Calif.) — It sounds like it’s finally time for Anaheim Ducks forward Teemu Selanne to hang up his skates.

The 43-year-old Selanne, who is also known as the “Finnish Flash,” has previously said he will retire this summer, and after the the teams 6-2 loss to the Los Angeles Kings in Game 7 of the Western Conference semifinals, it seems like he’ll keep his word.

“I’ve been flirting with this decision for a long time, but the passion and the fun always brought me back,” Selanne said. “I still love this game, and I still know I can play, but it is better this way than having different situations, and that’s why I think it is the right time.”

Selanne has played 21 NHL seasons and is 15th all-time on the NHL’s scoring list with 1,457 points and 11th all-time with 684 goals.

Selanne played in 64 games for the Ducks this season scoring nine goals and dishing out 18 assists.

Kings Rout Anaheim in Game Seven

Kings Rout Anaheim in Game Seven

Jeff Gross/Getty Images(ANAHEIM, Calif.) — Justin Williams scored four and a half minutes in to the start of Game Seven and the Los Angeles Kings never looked back. Six different players scored as the Kings polished off the Anaheim Ducks 6-2 to advance to their third straight Western Conference Finals.

“I think we just focused on trying to have a good start,” said Kings head coach Darryl Sutter. “If you score the first goal it’s been an advantage in this series.”

So far in the NHL Playoffs, the team that scores first has won 25 of 26 games. Los Angeles has also won six straight games this postseason when facing elimination, including rallying from down 3-0 in their opening round series with San Jose.

The Kings jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first period and added another goal thanks to Anze Kopitar just two minutes into the second. That chased rookie goalkeeper John Gibson but a change in net did not deter Los Angeles. Marion Gaborik would eventually score on Jonas Hiller to make the score 5-0 before Anaheim finally got on the board thanks to Kyle Palmieri.

Jonathan Quick allowed just two goals and made 25 saves in the win. Los Angeles will face the defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks for the second consecutive season. The Kings hoisted the Stanley Cup in 2012.

Friday’s game also marked the end of the career of Anaheim’s Teemu Selanne. Affectionately known as “The Finnish Flash”, Selanne played 15 of his 21 season with the Ducks and helped bring the franchise its only championship in 2007. Both teams stayed on the ice following the game as fans in Anaheim saluted the soon-to-be retired forward.

Kane’s OT Goal Vaults Blackhawks into Western Conference Finals

Kane’s OT Goal Vaults Blackhawks into Western Conference Finals

Bruce Kluckhohn/National Hockey League/Getty Images(ST. PAUL, Minn.) –  Patrick Kane lives for the dramatic moments.

Kane scored the game-winning goal 9:42 into overtime as the Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Minnesota Wild 2-1 in Game 6 on Tuesday night to advance to the Western Conference finals.

“He’s a special player, and guys have that instinct, have that knack of finding pucks, wanting to be out there, wanting to score,” Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said.

Kris Versteeg scored 1:58 into the first period to set the tone for Chicago.  Corey Crawford made 34 saves, but in the end, the story was all about Kane’s heroics.

“We probably didn’t play our best tonight, but just finding a way to win is something this team has done for many years now,” Kane said. The 25-year-old now has four playoff overtime game-winning goals in his career.

Erik Haula scored a goal during the second period to tie the game at 1, but it wasn’t enough as the Wild were eliminated from the playoffs.

“We really believe that we were capable of doing more than just winning this game,” Wild coach Mike Yeo said. “Our guys did everything that we asked and they laid it on the line, and that’s what hurts.”

The Blackhawks will face either the Anaheim Ducks or the Los Angeles Kings in the next round.

Smith-Pelly Scores Twice to Lead Ducks to Victory, Take 3-2 Series Lead

Smith-Pelly Scores Twice to Lead Ducks to Victory, Take 3-2 Series Lead

Debora Robinson/NHLI via Getty Images(ANAHEIM, Calif.) — Devante Smith-Pelly scored two goals to help lead the Anaheim Ducks to a 4-3 victory over the Los Angeles Kings Monday, in Game 5 of the Western Conference Semifinal.

Anaheim has now won three in a row and has a 3-2 series lead.

The game was tied at a goal apiece early in the second period when the 21-year-old Smith-Pelly scored two times in less than two minutes.

“We’re just having a lot of fun,” Smith-Pelly said. “This is what you dream about, playing in the playoffs.”

The Ducks would add one more to take a 4-1 lead, but Kings winger Marian Gaborik scored two goals to whittle Anaheim’s lead to one with 5:48 remaining. Ducks rookie goaltender John Gibson refused to let the Kings score from there finishing the night with 39 saves.

“We were talking about how we have to get to Gibson, and if we do, things are happening,” Gaborik said. “If we get shots through and try to go to the net, rebounds are there, and we got some chances. We have to keep doing that and we have to clean a lot of stuff up. We’re coming home. We’re confident we can win and come back here.”

That chance will come Wednesday night. The puck is set to drop in Los Angeles at 9:30 p.m. Eastern.
