Bill Belichick: Andrew Luck Has ‘No Weakness’ in His Game

Bill Belichick: Andrew Luck Has ‘No Weakness’ in His Game

Doug Pensinger/Getty Images(FOXBOROUGH, Mass) -- New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick knows it won't be easy on Sunday against the Colts in the AFC Championship game.

Belichick is getting his defense ready for one of the best quarterbacks in the league -- Andrew Luck, who has tossed three touchdowns and thrown for 641 yards in the postseason so far.

"He's got a lot of strengths, no weaknesses," Belichick said Wednesday.

"He's got a great future in front of him," Belichick continued. "He's already done a lot in the time that he's been in the league, and I'm sure by the time he gets done he can pass a lot of guys by."

"Luck's hard to bring down," Belichick added. "He runs very well. He's athletic. He can get outside and make yards with his legs. They also use him on some keep-type plays, you know, the one he scored on for example in the Denver game last week."

Luck and the Colts are coming off beating the Broncos in Denver last weekend.

Andrew Luck: Broncos Present ‘a lot of Challenges’

Andrew Luck: Broncos Present ‘a lot of Challenges’

Joe Robbins/Getty Images(INDIANAPOLIS) -- The Indianapolis Colts' trip to the AFC Championship game will have to go through Denver on Sunday in the divisional round.

It's the third showdown between Colts quarterback Andrew Luck and former Colt, now Bronco, Peyton Manning.

Luck said this week that the game isn't about their matchup, but rather him facing their defense.

In speaking about the defense he'll be facing, Luck said there's "a lot of challenges, [it's] hard to say the biggest one. I think obviously [Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware] stand out and their d-line is very good."

"I think our offensive line is up for that challenge," Luck continued. "[There's a] bunch of good players all over the field."

Manning and the Broncos lost to Luck in their first game 39-33 last season and bounced back this year with a 31-24 win on Sept. 7.

Colts Owner Jim Irsay Confident Headed into Denver

Colts Owner Jim Irsay Confident Headed into Denver

Joe Robbins/Getty Images(INDIANAPOLIS) -- Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay believes his team has what it takes to win a Super Bowl this year.

The Colts are preparing for a showdown with the Broncos in Denver on Sunday and Irsay told reporters in a rare media appearance on Tuesday that this could be a special run to the Super Bowl.

"I definitely feel that," Irsay said. "The expectation is again that we haven't played our best game, and that we have to play it [Sunday at Denver]."

"I like the fact that we've already won a playoff game and we're on a roll," he continued. "[Former Colts coach] Tony Dungy always said that the first one's the hardest to get. Coming out of the [Cincinnati] game healthy with the confidence of a 16-point win, that goes a long way."

The Colts were in a similar position last season after beating the Chiefs 45-44 in the wild card round, but fell to the Patriots 43-22 in New England.

"Peyton [Manning] is still playing at such a high level," Irsay said of the Colts former quarterback. "I thought that he would. It was, again, great that he was able to go to a team and get surrounded with great players like they've surrounded him with."

Still, Irsay has faith that Colts quarterback Andrew Luck will deliver on Sunday.

"To be in the playoffs three straight years, win 33 games over three years, to have already won two playoff games, that's something that you don't take for granted," Irsay said of Luck's run. "This is really exciting, obviously, to have this context, but again, both teams want to advance. Our goal is to win the game."

Colts Stifle Bengals, 26-10, Headed to Denver

Joe Robbins/Getty Images(INDIANAPOLIS) -- The Indianapolis Colts are headed to Denver for a matchup with the Broncos after taking care of the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, 26-10 in the wild card round.

Colts running back Daniel Herron got them started with a two-yard touchdown run on their first possession of the game and quarterback Andrew Luck tossed a 36-yard touchdown pass to Donte Moncrief to give them a 19-10 lead with 7:48 left in the third quarter.

"I think you appreciate every win and you don't take it for granted," Luck said of the win.  "We're onto next week, the playoffs it's a different feel, you got to move on and you've got to keep that journey alive."

The Bengals have now dropped their last seven playoff games in a row and quarterback Andy Dalton joined the company of Y.A. Tittle to drop his first four playoff starts.

"I felt like we were ready to go," Dalton said.  "You know all the hard work that's been put in, you feel like you're prepared going into a game, again it falls by the waste side, it is tough from that standpoint."

Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis is now 0-6 in the playoffs.

Colts Want to Build Momentum into the Playoffs

Joe Robbins/Getty Images(INDIANAPOLIS) -- The Indianapolis Colts are 4-3 on the road this year and would like to generate some steam against the Titans on Sunday as they head into the playoffs.

Indianapolis has already clinched their division, but is coming off a 42-7 beating by the Cowboys last weekend.

"We want to go out and win," Colts quarterback Andrew Luck said.  "No matter what's at stake, we want to go out and play well, that's a priority."

The Titans have dropped their last nine in a row and are 1-6 at home this year.

"Nobody is giving up," Titans quarterback Charlie Whitehurst said this week.  "You can see how hard we fight until the very end, and that locker room expects to win (Sunday). That's the way we've been all year and we just have not been able to put it all together yet."

Tom Brady: We Have ‘to Put Up a Lot of Points’ Sunday

Tom Brady: We Have ‘to Put Up a Lot of Points’ Sunday

Jim Rogash/Getty Images(FOXBOROUGH, Mass.) -- The New England Patriots will travel to Indianapolis to take on the Colts Sunday night.

New England quarterback Tom Brady said Wednesday that the key to beating the Colts will be putting up a lot of points.

"When you play another great offense you're going to have to put up a lot of points," Brady said. "My focus is on the other side of the ball, but you also know you're not going to be able to score 13 points and win the game."

Colts quarterback Andrew Luck is on track to break Peyton Manning's single season passing yards record and is the leader of the NFL's highest scoring offense.

"He's a great player," Brady said of Luck.  "He's in his third year and he's had a lot of success.  They're offense is doing a great job this year, they score a lot of points especially at home and he's kind of the ring leader."

With a win on Sunday, the Patriots will remain the top seed in the AFC.

Colts Trample Giants Behind Luck’s Four Touchdowns

Colts Trample Giants Behind Luck’s Four Touchdowns

Joe Robbins/Getty Images(EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J.) -- Andrew Luck threw four touchdown passes to go along with 354 passing yards as the Indianapolis Colts rolled over the New York Giants, 40-24, on Monday night. It was the seventh straight game that Luck tossed for more than 300 yards, a franchise record.

The scoring started off slow for Luck and the Colts (6-3), settling for a solitary Adam Vinatieri field goal in the first quarter. Indy's offense got going in the second when Luck found Coby Fleener for a 32-yard touchdown pass to make it a 10-0 game.

Three of Luck's scoring throws went for more than 30 yards, with all four going to a different receiver.

While the offense was firing on all cylinders, the Colts' defense kept New York (3-5) off-balance all night, sending them to their third straight loss. The Giants struggled to find a rhythm, scoring only a field goal in the first half. They were able to cut the lead to 23-10 on an Andre Williams 1-yard touchdown run, but the Colts responded with 17 straight points to put the game out of reach.

Manning finished the day with 359 passing yards and two touchdowns, although both scoring throws came late in the fourth quarter. Luck used nine different receivers during the game, with Fleener catching four passes for a team-high 77 yards.
