Royals Take Game 1 Over Orioles 8-6

Royals Take Game 1 Over Orioles 8-6 Mike McGinnis/Getty Images(BALTIMORE, MD) -- The Kansas City Royals have struck first, taking game one of the ALCS from the Baltimore Orioles, 8-6. Powered by tenth inning home runs from Alex Gordon and Mike Moustakas the Royals continued their extra inning success.  The Royals now have four wins this postseason in games that have gone longer than nine innings. Gordon spoke about the sudden power outburst. "We know we're capable of hitting home runs,"Gordon said, "We didn't do it during the regular season, but it doesn't really matter." Greg Holland earned the save in the tenth, though not without some drama. After earning the first two outs, Holland gave up a single to Ryan Flaherty and a walk to Jimmy Paredes. Delmon Young smacked a single to center driving in Flaherty making the score 8-6. Holland locked it down with the next batter as he forced Nick Markakis to groundout to second, ending the game. In game two, Bud Norris will take the hill for the Orioles and Yordano Ventura will get the nod for the Royals. Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Baltimore completed a 3-0 Division Series sweep and they'll wait on the winner of Kansas City and the Angels series. Cruz's homer in the sixth was his 16th postseason dinger, which passed Babe Ruth on the all-time list. Bud Norris pitched 6.1 and allowed two hits and struck out six for the victory. Tigers starter David Price, who came over in a trade during the summer, threw 112 pitches in eight innings of work with six strike outs and gave up the two-run homer to Cruz in the sixth.   This is Baltimore's first trip to the ALCS since 1997. MLB Postseason Matchups Set

MLB Postseason Matchups Set Zoonar/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) -- It took all 162 games, but the Major League postseason was decided on Sunday as the top 10 teams found out where and when their next games will be. Both the American League and National League Central division titles were also won on Sunday while the final AL Wild Card spot was decided. David Price tossed seven and one-third innings of shutout baseball, giving up four hits and striking out eight, to give the Detroit Tigers the AL Central crown for the fourth straight year. Ian Kinsler drove in a pair of runs in the 3-0 victory while Joe Nathan picked up his 35th save of the season. The Tigers will travel to AL East Champion Baltimore to begin best-of-five divisional series against the Orioles on Thursday. The Tigers' victory means that Kansas City's first postseason appearance in 29 years will come in the Wild Card round. The Royals will host the Oakland Athletics, who eliminated the Seattle Mariners with a 4-0 win over the Texas Rangers Sunday, in a one-game "play-in" on Tuesday night. The winner of that contest will then travel to Los Angeles to battle the Angels in the divisional round, beginning Thursday. In the National League, the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 1-0 after they were already crowned Central division champs. Pittsburgh's 4-1 loss relegated the Pirates to the Wild Card round where they will host the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday. Whoever advances will then visit the Washington Nationals, winner of the NL East, in the divisional series on Friday. Meanwhile, the Cardinals begin their defense of the NL Pennant on Friday when they travel to NL West champion Los Angeles to battle with the Dodgers. Orioles Clinch AL East for First Time Since 1997

Orioles Clinch AL East for First Time Since 1997 Baltimore Orioles/MLB(BALTIMORE) -- For the first time since 1997, the Baltimore Orioles are the American League East champions. "It's everything I hoped for, man. It's an awesome experience," Orioles outfielder Nick Markakis, who has played with Baltimore since 2006, said. "We worked hard all season long to get where we are now. We got one step out of the way. Now we have a couple more steps to go." First baseman Steve Pearce hit a three-run homer to help the Orioles top the Toronto Blue Jays 8-2, giving the O's their ninth win in 10 games. "We're AL East champs," Pearce said while celebrating in the clubhouse. "Awesome." It's the ninth time the Orioles have won the division, but only the second time since 1983, when they won the World Series. Ubaldo Jimenez (5-9) earned the win, pitching five innings and allowing two hits, two runs, and four walks while striking out six. Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Chris Davis Suspended 25 Games

Chris Davis Suspended 25 Games Robbie Rogers/MLB Photos via Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Baltimore Orioles first baseman Chris Davis was suspended 25 games on Friday by Major League Baseball for violating the league's drug policy. Davis tested positive for amphetamines and immediately accepted the suspension. "I apologize to my teammates, coaches, the Orioles organization and especially the fans,'' Davis said in a statement. ""I made a mistake by taking Adderall. I had permission to use it in the past, but do not have a therapeutic use exemption this year. I accept my punishment and will begin serving my suspension immediately." The 28-year-old slugger launched 26 home runs in 2014 but holds a major league-worst .194 batting average for the Orioles, who hold a 10 1/2 game lead in the American League East with 17 games to play. Davis' suspension will carry into the postseason, under the terms of the league's drug policy. Baltimore is already without catcher Matt Wieters and third baseman Manny Machado, who both have undergone season-ending surgery.  Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio
