Texans’ Clowney Undergoes Microfracture Surgery

Texans’ Clowney Undergoes Microfracture Surgery

Cliff Hawkins/Getty Images(HOUSTON, Tx.) -- The enormous hype that surrounded the top pick in 2014's NFL draft has fallen flat. Texan's defensive end Jadeveon Clowney underwent microfracture knee surgery Monday, according to a statement from the Houston Texans.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the recovery time for Clowney will be around nine months.  His return will likely be after the 2015 pre-season.

It is possible he could start the season on the team's physically unable to perform list.

"We expect a full recovery," Texans general manager Rick Smith told ESPN.com's Tania Ganguli.

Clowney entered the league with enormous attention and promise for his ability to rush the passer. Since being drafted, his season has been injury-plagued. He suffered a concussion in an August practice with Denver. He then suffered a lateral meniscus tear in the season opener against the Washington Redskins.

"This guy's a football player. He wants to play football, he wants to be good. He was disappointed," Head Coach Bill O'Brien said via Twitter.

Texans Dominate Titans

Texans Dominate Titans

Scott Halleran/Getty Images(HOUSTON, Tx.) -- Ryan Fitzpatrick returned as the starting quarterback for the Texans Sunday, when Houston hosted the Tennessee Titans.

He took out his frustrations of being benched on the Titans, as he threw for six touchdowns in the Texans' 45-21 victory. Fitzpatrick finished the day completing 24 of 33 passes for 358 yards.

"I didn't know if I'd ever have a chance to play again," Fitzpatrick said. "It was eye-opening for me not to take it for granted and to embrace it."

Fitzpatrick had been benched for poor performance two weeks ago in favor of Ryan Mallett. He returned to the starting lineup after Mallett was placed on injured reserve with a torn pectoral muscle.

DeAndre Hopkins was his prime target as he reeled in nine catches for 238 yards and two touchdowns.

Another touchdown pass went to defensive end J.J. Watt.  Watt now has five touchdowns on the season. This was his third receiving score on the season to go with two defensive touchdowns (one fumble return, one interception return).

The Texans move to 6-6 and travel to face the Jaguars next weekend.

Brian Hoyer: Our Goal Is to Go 1-0

Brian Hoyer: Our Goal Is to Go 1-0

Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images(CLEVELAND) -- The Cleveland Browns (6-3) will host the Houston Texans (4-5) on Sunday.

Cleveland continues to impress this year and quarterback Brian Hoyer knows the importance of this game.

"Our main goal this week is to be 1-0," Hoyer said. "We're not going to get a berth into the playoffs based off this game. We realize its one game at a time, so from here on out its seven one game seasons."

Hoyer will be going up against an old teammate -- Ryan Mallett, the starting quarterback this week, who was a backup to Tom Brady in New England.

"I can honestly say it's the strongest arm I've ever seen," Hoyer said of Mallett.

Hoyer was also in New England when Houston Texans head coach Bill O'Brien was the defensive coordinator for the Patriots.

"I don't think I'd be the player I am today without Billy," Hoyer said. "My time in New England, I remember him telling me 'I don't really coach Tom Brady, I just kind of guide him in the right direction and game plan', I feel like I got the benefit of his extra coaching.  It really helped me out as far as a quarterback in this league."

Victor Cruz Scores First Touchdown at MetLife, Giants Beat Texans

NFL via Getty Images(EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J.) -- The New York Giants earned their first win of the season, defeating the Houston Texans 30-17 on Sunday.

The Giants took advantage of three Ryan Fitzpatrick interceptions and methodically moved the ball against the Texans all day.

Eli Manning returned to form, throwing for 234 yards and two touchdowns.

Victor Cruz capitalized on the Texans defense, hauling in five passes, including a 61-yard reception and his first touchdown at MetLife Stadium, which gave the Giants a 7-0 lead in the second quarter.

Despite the stifling front seven of the Texans, led by J.J. Watt, Giants running back Rashad Jennings gashed Houston all day, running for 176 yards and a touchdown.

New York has a quick turnaround as they travel to face their division rival Washington Redskins on Thursday night.

Andre Johnson Unsure of His Future in Houston

Andre Johnson Unsure of His Future in Houston

Rob Tringali/SportsChrome/Getty Images(HOUSTON) -- Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson is entering his 11th year in the NFL, but he isn’t sure of his future with the team.

"Nobody's been here as long as I have," Johnson said on Tuesday.  "You just kind of look at things. I've been thinking about things this offseason. And I just kind of wonder sometimes, 'Is this still the place for me?'"

The Texans brought in first-year head coach Bill O'Brien this offseason, which is the third coach that Johnson will play under during his time in Houston.

During his 11 years in Houston, Johnson has only made the playoffs twice and doesn't think the Texans are building a contender.

"I think we've only had three winning seasons," Johnson said. "I don't think any player wants to experience that. I think over time it can become very frustrating. And this offseason has been very frustrating for me; beginning of the offseason, I should say. That's just kind of where I'm at right now."

Johnson skipped the Texans voluntary workouts last week and said he has no plans to show up for OTAs and the mandatory minicamp.
