Bruce Arians: We ‘Desperately’ Want Larry Fitzgerald Back

Christian Petersen/Getty Images(PHOENIX) -- Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians made his case for wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald to stay put.

Fitzgerald is due $15 million base salary in 2015 and holds $23.6 million of the Cardinals' salary, but the organization is hoping he'll restructure his deal.

"We definitely, desperately want him to stay," coach Bruce Arians said Friday, via the team's official website. "He knows that. It's really his decision."

Fitzgerald pulled in 63 passes for 784 yards and two touchdowns in 2014, which was the lowest in his career.

Fitzgerald also had to deal with four different quarterbacks throwing to him this season, because of Carson Palmer going down mid-way through the year with a torn ACL.

Arizona finished 11-5, but were knocked out of the playoffs in the first round.

Panthers Run Over Cardinals

Panthers Run Over Cardinals

Scott Cunningham/Getty Images(CHARLOTTE, N.C.) -- The Carolina Panthers will continue roolling along into the Divisional round of the NFL Playoffs.

The Panthers (8-8-1) dominated the Cardinals 27-16 Saturday, holding Arizona to 77 total yards of offense.

Jonathan Stewart took advantage of a Cardinals defense that has lost its edge over the past few weeks to the tune of 123 yards on 24 carries. He also scored a touchdown in the first quarter.

The Cardinals (11-6) limped into the playoffs after losing starting quarterback Carson Palmer and backup Drew Stanton to knee injuries. Ryan Lindley, who was forced into the starting role the past three weeks, committed two crucial interceptions.

The Cardinals defense could no longer carry the team as missed tackles proved to be Arizona's undoing. The Panthers kept the Cardinals off balance with power runs and quick passes to the backs and receivers in the seam on the way to racking up 386 yards of total offense.

The Panthers will play at Seattle next weekend if Dallas beats Detroit on Sunday. Green Bay will host Carolina if the Lions win.

Arians Names Lindley Starter for Playoff Game Vs. Panthers

Arians Names Lindley Starter for Playoff Game Vs. Panthers

Streeter Lecka/Getty Images(TEMPE, Ariz.) -- Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians announced after Thursday's practice that Ryan Lindley will start the team's playoff game Saturday against the Carolina Panthers. "Ryan will start at quarterback. Drew (Stanton) is not going to be able to play," Arians said. Lindley is 0-2 this season as a starter and is 1-5 during his career. Stanton is out for his third straight game due to a right knee injury. Only seven quarterbacks since 1970 have started a playoff game with one or fewer regular season wins as a starter. The last one of those to win a game was the Houston Oilers Gifford Nielson in 1979. In the three games Lindley has participated in this season, he's completed 45 of 93 passes for 562 yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions.

Cardinals Change Course, Will Start Lindley Sunday

Cardinals Change Course, Will Start Lindley Sunday

Streeter Lecka/Getty Images

(PHOENIX, Az.) -- As the week began, Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians planned to start rookie Logan Thomas at quarterback against the 49ers. After a week of practice, Arians has had a change of heart and chosen Ryan Lindley to steer Arizona; a move he said would be a possibility when he first announced his thoughts about Thomas.

Thomas, a fourth round pick out of Virginia Tech, has all the physical tools sought after in a quarterback. The trouble for the 6'6", 260-pound signal caller has been consistency, footwork and accuracy.

Lindley, got the start for the Cardinals last week in the 35-6 drubbing at the hands of Seattle. The third-year pro from San Diego State struggled mightily against the Seahawks completing 18 of 44 passes for 216 yards and one interception. He was also sacked four times.

Monday, at the time of the initial quarterback decision, Arians defended the play of Lindley stating that, "the stadium wasn't too big for him. He just missed some throws."

Lindley will have the chance to reward his head coaches’ faith Sunday against a reeling 49ers team.

Stanton Diagnosed with Sprain, Will Not Require Surgery

Stanton Diagnosed with Sprain, Will Not Require Surgery

Scott Boehm/Getty Images(TEMPE, Ariz.) -- The Arizona Cardinals got some good news on Friday when it was announced that quarterback Drew Stanton suffered only a sprain of his knee in Thursday night's win over St. Louis. Stanton was injured in the third quarter of Arizona's 12-6 win and was eventually carted off the field.

"It's just going to be rest and rehab," said Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians. "It's very good news that he's not going to need surgery."

There is no official timetable for Stanton's return, though Arians did not rule out a possible return this season. Stanton is the second quarterback being used this year after Carson Palmer tore his ACL earlier in the year.

Arizona (11-3) will host NFC West rival Seattle in Week 16 with a possible division crown at stake. If Stanton is unable to play, the Cardinals will most likely turn to third-year quarterback Ryan Lindley. The former San Diego State quarterback was 4-for-10 on Thursday with 30 passing yards in absence of Stanton.

Cardinals Prepare for Seahawks

Cardinals Prepare for Seahawks

Streeter Lecka/Getty Images(TEMPE, Ariz.) -- The Arizona Cardinals will travel to Seattle on Sunday with a big chip on their shoulder playing as the underdog under backup Drew Stanton.

Stanton led the Cardinals to a 14-6 win over the Lions last Sunday, but they won't be the favorite entering the 12th man at CenturyLink Field.

"I would've anticipated that," Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said. "Going up there, everybody's usually an underdog. It's another one of those things that we don't really need any extra motivation to go play them, especially at their place.

"They're the world champions. We're just 9-1. We haven't done s--- until we do something, but this is a big game."

Seattle is coming off a 24-20 loss to the Chiefs on Sunday and sits three games out of the NFC West behind Arizona.

"We know it's going to be difficult," Stanton said. "We're not trying to pretend that it's not, but at the same time, we have to stick with our keys and what we think we can do to be successful."

Arizona knocked off Seattle in Week 16 last year to hand them their first home loss.

Arizona Cardinals Give Three Year Extension to Palmer

Arizona Cardinals Give Three Year Extension to Palmer

Streeter Lecka/Getty Images(PHOENIX) -- The Arizona Cardinals have signed starting quarterback Carson Palmer to a three-year extension worth $50 million.

Palmer was set to become a free agent after this season and has won all five games he's played this year, after missing three games with a shoulder injury.

"Carson has played at an incredibly high level and has been a huge part of the team's success," general manager Steve Keim said. "When you combine his on-field performance with the leadership, stability and professionalism he brings to our team, there was no question that we wanted to extend the relationship and we are excited he felt the same way."

The Cardinals acquired Palmer from the Raiders in 2013 in a deal in which Arizona swapped its 2013 sixth round pick for Oakland's seventh rounder in the same draft. The Cardinals also surrendered a seventh rounder in the 2014 draft after Palmer started at least 13 games for the Cardinals in 2013.

Palmer has won 15 of his 21 starts for Arizona.
