Nuggets Fire Head Coach Brian Shaw

Nuggets Fire Head Coach Brian Shaw Christian Petersen/Getty Images(DENVER) -- The Denver Nuggets fired head coach Brian Shaw, the team announced on Tuesday. Assistant Melvin Hunt will take over on an interim basis. “I want to sincerely thank Brian for his time with our organization,” said Nuggets general manager Tim Connelly in a statement. “You won’t find a better guy than Brian and he is one of the brightest basketball minds I’ve ever been around. Unfortunately things didn’t go as we hoped, but we know with his basketball acumen that he has a very bright future ahead of him.” The Nuggets are 20-39 on the season and are in a midst of a six-game losing streak. Shaw took over for George Karl on June 25, 2013. During his tenure on the sidelines for Denver, he compiled a record of 56-85. “This season our management staff has remained patient and supportive as decisions of this nature are never taken lightly,” said Connelly. “Patience is encouraged, as long as the organization continues to show progress toward a greater goal. However, competing for championships is our goal, and therefore we decided to make this decision now and look forward to conducting an extensive head coaching search upon the season's conclusion. This has been a trying season for all of us, and we appreciate Nuggets fans continued faith and patience as we build our proud organization back to the NBA's elite." Richardson/Getty Images(SACRAMENTO, Ca.) -- At a time when basketball coaches are reaching the millennium mark for victories, the Sacramento Kings are looking to hire a man who has already achieved it. The Kings gave George Karl a contract to become the head coach of the team, according to Ric Bucher of Bleacher Report. Karl, 63, has a career record of 1,131 wins and 756 losses in 25 seasons. Tyrone Corbin has been serving as interim head coach of the team since Mike Malone was fired in December when the team began the season 11-13. Corbin is expected to coach the team for at least the next pair of games into the All-Star break, according to Yahoo Sports' Marc Spears.  Karl previously served as head coach of the Denver Nuggets for eight seasons, compiling a record of 423-257 before being fired in 2013. Cavaliers Trade for C Timofey Mozgov

Cavaliers Trade for C Timofey Mozgov National Basketball Association(NEW YORK) -- The Cleveland Cavaliers traded two protected first-round picks to the Denver Nuggets in exchange for center Timofey Mozgov and a 2015 second-round pick. It's the second trade the Cavs have made in a week. They were part of a three-team deal that got them J.R. Smith, Iman Shumpert, and a first-round pick from the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for Dion Waiters. "It was a deal that we worked on for quite some time," Cavaliers GM David Griffin said. "We're very excited about this. It fits our needs." The Cavaliers were in need of a center after losing Anderson Varejao for the season due to a torn Achilles.Mozgov reunites with Cavaliers' coach David Blatt, who coached him on the Russian national team in the 2012 Olympics in London. The Nuggets also receive a $4.6 million trade exception from the Cavs in the deal. The 7-foot-1, 250 pound Mozgov has played in 35 games this season, averaging 8.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game. Nuggets’ Brian Shaw Experimenting with Getting Rid of Early Shootarounds

Nuggets’ Brian Shaw Experimenting with Getting Rid of Early Shootarounds Rick Havner for TSN(NEW YORK) -- In an effort to shake things up, Denver Nuggets head coach Brian Shaw is looking outside the box and will experiment with getting rid of morning shootarounds. Shaw feels that this will help energize his team and help their focus during games. “It’s just something that I’m experimenting with now to try to get us to a point where we can come out and be a little bit more sharp,” Shaw told the Denver Post. “Our attention span isn’t always the greatest. “When we do stuff in the morning, sometimes it’s in one ear and out by the time we come back that night. So the closer we can do everything going into the game, hopefully it will be better for us.” So far so good for Shaw's experiment as the Nuggets won on Monday night, beating the Minnesota Timberwovles 110-101. The Nuggets still sit at 15-20, 4.5 games behind the Phoenix Suns who hold the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright © 2015, ABC Radio. Nuggets Forward Kenneth Faried Critical of His Play This Season

Nuggets Forward Kenneth Faried Critical of His Play This Season Jed Jacobson/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Even though the Denver Nuggets are rebounding from a tough start to the season, forward Kenneth Faried has been disappointed by his own play so far. During the offseason, Faried signed a four-year extension with the team worth $50 million. So far, according to himself, he hasn't lived up to his new deal. “Awful…I just haven’t been playing my game,” Faried told the Denver Post. “I know it. My teammates know it. My coaches know it. Hopefully, this month of December, I turn everything around. But for me, it’s awful." "You’ve got to be able to look at yourself, look at the man in the mirror and say that to yourself. And be able to correct yourself,” he continued. Through 17 games, the 25-year-old Faried is averaging 11.4 rebounds and 7.0 rebounds per game. Last season, he averaged 13.7 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. At 9-8, the Nuggets are fifth in the NBA in scoring at 105.4 points per game but are 26th in points allowed at 105.2 per game. LeBron Powers Cleveland to Win Over Nuggets

LeBron Powers Cleveland to Win Over Nuggets Christian Petersen/Getty Images(DENVER) -- Behind a near triple-double from LeBron James, the Cleveland Cavaliers snapped a brief two-game skid with a 110-101 win over the Denver Nuggets on Friday. James scored a team-high 22 points while also dishing out 11 assists and pulling in seven rebounds. Cleveland (2-3) led by 18 after the first quarter, which included nine total assists. The Cavs had just six assists in the their last game, a 100-102 loss to Utah. Despite only scoring two points in the period, James did have six assists by himself. As a team, the Cavaliers dished out 25 assists in the win. "We were in tune defensively from the beginning and ... sharing the ball," James said. "We were locked in. I was very pleased with that." Cleveland led by as many as 21 points in the second half, but the Nuggets (1-4) were able to claw their way back into the game. Randy Foye, who led Denver with 28 points, hit a layup with six minutes left in regulation to cut the deficit to 96-88. Less than 90 seconds later, it was a six point game. Dion Waiters then stole a pass from Wilson Chandler and dunked it home at the other end, stopping the Denver momentum and giving the Cavaliers a 100-92 lead. Despite being outshot from the floor, Cleveland was 24-of-33 at the foul line while the Nuggets went just 10-of-15. Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

ESPN: Nuggets Agree on Five-Year Extension with Kenneth Faried Christopher Trotman/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Fresh off his dominating performance for the United States in the FIBA World Cup, Yahoo! Sports and ESPN reports that the Denver Nuggets and forward Kenneth Faried have agreed on a five-year extension. The deal is reportedly worth $60 million, and Faried will make no less than $52 million over the duration of the contract. Entering his fourth season with the Nuggets, Faried has steadily improved since the Nuggets drafted him 22nd overall back in 2011. While he is not the team's star player, Faried is seen a relentless rebounder who plays with high energy and is a true "glue" guy who plays solid defense and is a key part of the Nuggets starting rotation. In 80 games last season, the 24-year-old Faried averaged 13.7 points and 8.6 rebounds in 27.2 minutes per game. Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio
