Ben Crane Wins FedEx St. Jude Classic

Ben Crane Wins FedEx St. Jude Classic

Mike Ehrmann/Getty Images(MEMPHIS, Tenn.) -- Ben Crane won the FedEx St. Jude Classic at TPC Southwind by one-stroke over Troy Merritt Sunday.

Crane shot a final round 3-over 73 to earn his fifth career victory and first since 2011.

Crane played 30 holes Sunday due to rain delays earlier in the week. He played the final 12 holes of his third round in the morning, shooting a 69 which gave him a three-stroke lead going into the final round.

Crane finished the tournament at 10-under, 270.

Phil Mickelson still hasn't won since last year's British Open. He finished tied for 11th at 6 under.

Matsuyama Wins Memorial In a Playoff

Matsuyama Wins Memorial In a Playoff

Sam Greenwood/Getty Images(DUBLIN, Ohio) -- Bubba Watson failed to hold his 54-hole lead at the Memorial, opening the door for a number of other players. Hideki Matsuyama was able to force a playoff with Kevin Na before winning his first tournament in America on the first extra hole.

It was not easy for Matsuyama, as he double-bogeyed on the 16th hole and bogeyed on the 17th, falling one stroke behind Na, who was already in the clubhouse. On his final tee shot of regulation, Matsuyama's drive bounced off a tree and into the fairway. The 22-year old took advantage of the break and hit a 7-iron to within five feet of the pin. His birdie putt put him at 13-under for the tournament and forced a playoff that he would win with a par on the first hole.

"To win my first PGA Tour event is enough," Matsuyama said. "But to win it here at (Jack) Nicklaus' course, it really gives me a lot of confidence now going on. And hopefully, I'll be able to use this week as a stepping stone to further my career."

Matsuyama became just the fourth Japanese-born player to win on the PGA Tour. His victory was aided by the collapse of multiple major winners. Watson, the Masters champion, led by one stroke with five holes to play but shot 3 over down the stretch. Adam Scott was 4 over on his final seven holes after being tied for the lead.

Mickleson Reportedly Watched by FBI, SEC

Mickleson Reportedly Watched by FBI, SEC

Sam Greenwood/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- One of golf's biggest names is reportedly under investigation by both the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Phil Mickelson is one of three men being investigated in a "major insider-trading probe involving finance, gambling and sports," according to the Wall Street Journal.

While no charges have been filed and no accusations have been made, 78-year-old Carl Ichan and William "Billy" Walters are also involved. Ichan runs Ichan Enterprises while Walters is a Las Vegas bettor and real-estate mogul.

The basis of the investigation is to discover whether or not Mickelson and Walters traded nonpublic information reportedly received from Ichan about his investments with public companies. Both the FBI and SEC are reviewing trading patterns from Mickelson and Walters in 2011 when Ichan made a $10.2 billion offer for Clorox.

Glenn Cohen, attorney for Mickelson, said that and FBI agent told that Mickelson is not a subject of the investigation. Ichan has also denied knowledge of the probe. The Journal contests that Mickelson and Walters play golf together and that Walters has sometimes suggested stocks for Mickelson to buy.

Mickelson shot 72 and 70 in the first two rounds of the Memorial in Dublin, Ohio and currently sits in 37th place.

Tiger Woods Will Miss U.S. Open

Tiger Woods Will Miss U.S. Open

Stuart Franklin/Getty Images(DUBLIN, Ohio) -- Tiger Woods announced on his website Wednesday that he will miss the 2014 U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2 because he is still recovering from back surgery.

"Unfortunately, I won't be there because I am not physically able to play competitive golf," Woods said. "I'd like to convey my regrets to the USGA leadership, the volunteers and the fans that I won't be at Pinehurst. The U.S. Open is very important to me, and I know it's going to be a great week. Despite missing the first two majors, and several other important tournaments, I remain very optimistic about this year and my future." Woods has been sidelined since playing in the WGC- Cadillac Championship in early March. The 14-time major title winner had surgery on March 31 for a pinched nerve in his back.

This will be the sixth major championship Tiger has missed because of injuries.

Scott Downs Dufner in Playoff to Win at Colonial

Scott Downs Dufner in Playoff to Win at Colonial

Tom Pennington/Getty Images(FORT WORTH, Texas) -- Adam Scott won the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial Sunday in a playoff over Jason Dufner.

Scott, who just this week became the No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking, beat Dufner on the third playoff hole when he sunk a 7-foot birdie putt.

Scott and Dufner both shot 4-under 66s Sunday to finish tied at 9-under for the tournament. They both parred the first playoff hole and birdied the second before Scott won on the third hole.

The win means Scott becomes the first player ever to win the Texas Slam. To win the Slam you must win all four events in Texas. Scott won the Shell Houston Open in 2007, the HP Byron Nelson Championship in Dallas in 2008 and the Valero Texas Open in San Antonio in 2010.

"As soon as I made the decision to enter last week it was on my mind," Scott said when asked if he was thinking about winning the Texas Slam. "I thought it would be a neat thing to do. I'll take any kind of record I can get."

The win is Scott's 11th of his PGA Tour career.

Todd Wins First PGA Tour Event

Todd Wins First PGA Tour Event

Tom Pennington/Getty Images(IRVING, Texas) -- Brendon Todd tried 76 times to finish atop the leaderboard in a PGA Tour event. On Sunday, the 28-year old picked up his first career win at the Byron Nelson Championship.

"To win out here is really special," said Todd. "I think since I became a solid college golfer I felt like I could win on the PGA tour. It's taken a little while, but now that I'm here it's a dream come true."

Todd attended the University of Georgia, and one of the perks of winning his first PGA Tournament is a spot in the 2015 Masters at Augusta National. He also earns a PGA Tour exemption through the 2015-16 season, impressive considering Todd twice had to go back to the Web.com Tour in order to regain full playing privileges.

Todd finished at 14-under for the championship, defeating Mike Weir by two strokes. Weir, the 2003 Masters champion, held the lead on the final day before a bogey on the sixth gave Todd a chance to tie him at 12-under. Todd would take the lead for good with consecutive birdies on No. 9 and 10. He finished with a bogey-free round, including a 17-foot par putt on the 17th green.

Todd is the eighth different first-time winner on tour this season.
