Jaguars Claim Bernard Pierce Off Waivers

Jaguars Claim Bernard Pierce Off Waivers IStockPhoto/Thinkstock(JACKSONVILLE) -- The Jacksonville Jaguars have claimed running back Bernard Pierce off waivers from the Baltimore Ravens, who cut the fourth-year player following his DUI arrest on Wednesday. Pierce rushed for 1,334 yards and five touchdowns in his four-year career with the Ravens, including 532 yards as a rookie in 2012 to help the Ravens win the Super Bowl. He was supposed to split time with Justin Forsett and rookie Lorenzo Taliaferro in 2014 after Ray Rice was suspended. However, he was benched in the season opener for fumbling and eventually lost the job to Forsett, who ran for 1,266 yards and eight touchdowns. The Jaguars did not release a statement regarding Pierce other than announcing that they had claimed him off waivers. General manager David Caldwell was unable to be reached for comment. Report: Raiders Close to Hiring Jack Del Rio

Report: Raiders Close to Hiring Jack Del Rio Andy Lyons/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- The Oakland Raiders are closing in on Broncos defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio as their next head coach, reports ESPN. Del Rio interviewed for the job on Tuesday night with owner Mark Davis, general manager Reggie McKenzie, and former Raiders coach John Madden, ESPN also reports. Del Rio was the head coach at Jacksonville from 2003 to 2011 and guided the Jaguars to two postseason appearances during that time. Tony Sparano, their current interim head coach, is also a finalist for the job.  Sparano took over the team after they fired Dennis Allen earlier this year. The Raiders have failed to make the playoffs since their Super Bowl appearance in the 2002 season. Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright © 2015, ABC Radio. All rights reserved.

Jaguars’ Sen’Derrick Marks Rips the Pro Bowl Voting Process

Jaguars’ Sen’Derrick Marks Rips the Pro Bowl Voting Process Doug Pensinger/Getty Images(JACKSONVILLE, Fla.) -- Jacksonville Jaguars defensive tackle Sen'Derrick Marks is one of the better defensive tackles in the NFL, which is why he's left questioning the NFL as to why he wasn't named to the Pro Bowl. Now in his sixth season, Marks is having a career year. In 15 games, Marks has 42 tackles and 8.5 sacks, the second-most by an interior lineman in the NFL. Even though Marks was voted in as an alternate, he feels it still taints the process for him. "I won't hold it in high regards like I used to," he said. "I don't get it. I don't understand it. It's more reputation than based on what you did on the field that season. It's a political thing. It shows that the NFL is all about money. It's not about players and their performances." It could be possible that Marks was held back due to the fact that he plays for a 3-12 Jaguars, and fan voting makes up one-third of the ballot. Marks did add if he does wound up getting invited to the game, he would participate. Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Jaguars Rally to Beat Giants, 25-24

Jaguars Rally to Beat Giants, 25-24 Scott Boehm/Getty Images(JACKSONVILLE, Fla.) -- Despite trailing 21-0 in the first half, the Jacksonville Jaguars rallied and defeated the New York Giants 25-24 on a late Josh Scobee field goal on Sunday. The Jaguars (2-10) forced three fumbles in the win, returning two of them for touchdowns. The Giants (3-10) got on the board first when Rashad Jennings scored on the first play of the second quarter, running in from two yards out. New York added another score less than four minutes later as Eli Manning found Preston Parker for a three yard touchdown strike. Jennings then rumbled for another touchdown, this one from 17 yards out, to put the Giants up 21-0 with 6:30 to play in the half. Jacksonville finally scored when Scobee knocked home a 28-yard field goal just before the two minute warning. That was the start of 22 unanswered points for the Jaguars, helping to complete the comeback. Aiding in the effort was a pair of New York fumbles. Geno Hayes stripped Manning early in the third quarter and J.T. Thomas recovered in the endzone to make it a 21-10 Giants lead. After the defense was able to hold off the Giants again, Blake Bortles found Marqise Lee for a 30 yard touchdown to bring the Jaguars within one possession. New York looked to drive and regain momentum, but a Larry Donnell fumbled was picked up Aaron Colvin and returned 41 yards for a touchdown. A failed two-point conversion put Jacksonville ahead 22-21 with just under 13 minutes left in regulation. The Giants took the lead back on a Josh Brown 33-yard field goal with 3:26 remaining. Jacksonville's offense powered through, going 55 yards in three minutes, culminating in a 43-yard field goal from Scobee to take a 25-24 advantage. Manning was stripped on the next play, the third fumble of the day for New York, ultimately ending the game. Despite the two fumbles, Manning was 24-for-34 passing for 247 yards and one touchdown while Jennings ran for 91 yards and two scores. Jacksonville was paced by 194 passing yards from Bortles, one touchdown and 68 rushing yards.  Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Jaguars Place Rookie WR Allen Robinson on Injured Reserve

Jaguars Place Rookie WR Allen Robinson on Injured Reserve iStock/Thinkstock(JACKSONVILLE, Fla.) -- The Jacksonville Jaguars placed wide receiver Allen Robinson on the injured reserve list Tuesday because of a broken right foot. He suffered the injury during Sunday’s 31-17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys in London. The Jaguars selected Robinson out of Penn State in the second round of this year’s NFL draft. In his rookie campaign, he had 48 receptions for 548 yards and two touchdowns. Robinson leads the team in receptions and receiving yards. With Robinson out, the Jaguars are expected to rely heavily on veterans Cecil Shorts III as well as rookies Allen Hurns and Marquise Lee. Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Jaguars Stun Browns, Get First Win of Season

Jaguars Stun Browns, Get First Win of Season David Dermer/Diamond Images/Getty Images(JACKSONVILLE, Fla.) -- Denard Robinson rushed for a career-high 127 yards and a touchdown while the Jacksovnille defense held Cleveland to just 69 yards on the ground en route to a 24-6 Jaguars win on Sunday. It was the first win of the year for Jacksonville (1-6), snapping a nine-game losing streak. The Browns (3-3) took a 6-0 lead with a pair of field goals from Billy Cundiff despite being inside the 20-yard line on both drives. They found themselves on the wrong side of the scoreboard just before halftime when Blake Bortles and Allen Robinson connected for a 31-yard touchdown pass. Jacksonville added to their lead in the third quarter with a Josh Scobee field goal, the only points by either team in that period. The Jaguars let their defense do the rest, keeping the league's third-best rushing attack in check while forcing three turnovers. The victory was the first for the franchise since Dec. 15, 2013 when they beat the Houston Texans. Only adding to the Browns' frustration was the inability to score on three interceptions of Bortles. Quarterback Brian Hoyer was just 16-for-41 passing with 215 yards while Ben Tate rushed for a team-high 36 yards. Robinson, a star quarterback at Michigan in college, carried the ball 22 times and scored on an eight-yard scamper in the fourth quarter that put Jacksonville ahead 17-6. Robert Griffin III Exits with Dislocated Ankle

Robert Griffin III Exits with Dislocated Ankle Ronald Martinez/Getty Images(LANDOVER, Md.) -- The Washington Redskins (1-1) dominated Jacksonville, 41-10 on Sunday, but did it without starting quarterback Robert Griffin III. The third-year signal caller was carted off the field after suffering a dislocated ankle in the first quarter. Backup quarterback Kirk Cousins played admirably in relief, throwing for 250 yards and two touchdowns in the win over the Jaguars (0-2). Griffin is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday, but could miss the remainder of the season. "I'm just trying to stay in a good place," said Griffin. "Our spirits are high. We're always thinking positive. We'll see what happens tomorrow and whatever information comes out, we'll know what the timetable is from there." This marks the second time in his career that Griffin faces a potential season-ending injury. In 2012, Griffin suffered a torn ACL in his right knee, forcing him to miss the final four games of the regular season.  Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Jaguars Sign Blake Bortles David Dermer/Diamond Images/Getty Images(JACKSONVILLE, Fla.) -- The Jacksonville Jaguars signed their rookie quarterback Blake Bortles on Wednesday. Bortles was drafted by the team with the No. 3 pick and signed a four-year contract worth $20.65 million. "It's awesome," Bortles told Jaguars.com on Wednesday. "It's a once in a lifetime thing to sign your first contract, it's a cool feeling."  Chad Henne is scheduled to be the starter in 2014, but Bortles is taking everything in stride as he prepares for training camp in July.
