Donovan Will Play One Last Time for U.S.

Victor Decolongon/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- The U.S. Men's National Soccer Team's all-time leading scorer Landon Donovan, who announced in early August he would retire at the end of the MLS season, will play in one more game for the country. The 32-year-old will be part of the American team Oct. 10 in East Hartford, Conn. when it takes on Ecuador."For 15 years, Landon has thrilled us with his amazing abilities on the field and impressed us with his gracious approach off the field," U.S. Soccer President Sunil Gulati said in a statement. "We are looking forward to celebrating his legacy during our next home national team match and allowing fans the opportunity to thank him for all the memories he's provided over the years."Donovan, who was left off the U.S. 2014 World Cup team by head coach Jurgen Klinsmann, has 57 goals and 58 assists throughout his 156 matches with Team USA. "Congratulations to Landon Donovan on an absolutely amazing career. He consistently raised the bar for himself these last 15 years, and he set a fantastic example for so many other American players to follow," Klinsmann said in a statement. "As one of the best players in U.S. Soccer history, Landon should be proud of everything he has accomplished."

Tim Howard Taking 1-Year Break from US National Team

Tim Howard Taking 1-Year Break from US National Team

iStock/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) -- Goalie Tim Howard announced Thursday he will take a one-year off from the United States men's national soccer team. The 35-year-old will still play for Everton in England's Premier League and won't have a chance to return to the national team until September 2015.

"Having played overseas for the last 12 years and missing out on spending time with my family, making this commitment to my family is very important at this time," Howard said in a statement. "I am grateful for the willingness of both Jurgen Klinsmann and Everton manager Roberto Martinez to afford me the opportunity to spend time with my kids. It's the right decision at the right time. Jurgen has always been up front with all the players in saying you have to earn your place, which is something I agree with, so I look forward to coming back next fall and competing for a spot."

On his Facebook page, Howard also expressed interest in playing for the U.S. in the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

"Physically I feel as strong as ever, and right now my heart, mind, and body all feel good about continuing on with the national team for the next World Cup," Howard wrote. "It is difficult to predict the situation in four years but I know this decision is right for me today."

Howard has played every minute of every match for the Americans at the last two World Cups.

Jozy Altidore Out Against Germany

Jozy Altidore Out Against Germany

Michael Steele/Getty Images(SAO PAULO) -- United States forward Jozy Altidore will miss his second straight game in the World Cup with a left hamstring injury.

Altidore will be out for the final game of round one against Germany on Thursday.

"Jozy is recovering really well," U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann said. "He's doing a tremendous job. Our medical staff is on top of it. This game [against Germany] comes still too early for him, but we're working on him."

"We're getting him back in this tournament, as we said. So once this game is done -- hopefully successfully -- we'll have a good chance to have him back then in the team," he continued.

Altidore was injured during the first half of the U.S.' 2-1 victory over Ghana in their first game of the tournament.

Germany is ahead of the U.S. in Group G by goal differential.

The U.S. can still advance with a draw or a win, or with a draw between Portugal and Ghana.
