Georgia Trounces Louisville in Belk Bowl

Georgia Trounces Louisville in Belk Bowl Streeter Lecka/Getty Images(CHARLOTTE, N.C.) -- The Georgia Bulldogs scored 20 unanswered points en route to a 37-14 blowout over Louisville in the Belk Bowl on Tuesday night. Freshman Nick Chubb led the way with a career-high 266 rushing yards and two touchdowns in the win. "He showed everybody in the country that he's a pretty talented kid, a tough kid," Bulldogs head coach Mark Richt said. Chubb's workload increased in the second quarter when quarterback Hutson Mason went down with an injury. The freshman then went to work against the nation's second-best rush defense, averaging 8 yards per carry. His 266 yards were the second most in a bowl game by a Georgia running back, trailing only Herschel Walker's 283 yards in 1980. "That's a blessing being in the same sentence with him," Chubb said. "He's a great running back. But I had an awesome line up front making everything possible for me. I'm thankful for everyone around me and it's been a great season." Going into the second quarter tied at 7-7, Georgia (10-3) got a pair of Marshall Morgan field goals, sandwiched around Chubb's first touchdown run of the day. The lead ballooned in the third when Sony Michel barrelled into the end zone from two yards out. Louisville (9-4) finally got back on the board with a 6-yard run from Brandon Radcliff. Pitino Picks Up 700th Career Win

Pitino Picks Up 700th Career Win J. Meric/Getty Images(LOUISVILLE, Ky.) -- It wasn't as comfortable a victory as was probably expected, but No. 6 Louisville defeated Cleveland State 45-33 on Wednesday night in what was the 700th career victory for head coach Rick Pitino.  I hope I'm as lucky to (win) 800, because I remember it as if it was yesterday," said Pitino. "I don't think there's as much significance personally for me, but the significance I take away is that senior class last year, how many games they won. I was the beneficiary today." The 62-year-old became the 20th coach in Division I history to win 700 career games and ranks sixth among active head coaches. Pitino is now 700-245 in his career, including 346-117 in 14 seasons with the Cardinals (5-0). Louisville struggled to pull away all night, leading 33-29 with 12 minutes remaining. A combination of poor shooting and missed free throws allowed the Vikings (2-3) to think upset. However, Cleveland State made just two of their final 14 shots and did not score in the final six minutes. Montrezl Harrell had 15 points and 13 rebounds in the win, Louisville's lowest scoring game since 1997. The Vikings were paced by Trey Lewis' 24 points. Still Perfect: (2) FSU Erases 17 Point 3rd Quarter Deficit vs. Louisville

Still Perfect: (2) FSU Erases 17 Point 3rd Quarter Deficit vs. Louisville Streeter Lecka/Getty Images(LOUISVILLE, Ky.) -- No. 2 Florida State rallied from a 17 point third quarter deficit to beat No. 25 Louisville 42-31 Thursday night. Florida State (8-0, 5-0 ACC) has now won 24 straight. It looked early like there was no stopping the Cardinals, especially running back Michael Dyer. Dyer had two second quarter touchdown runs, the second giving Louisville a 14-0 lead. Will Gardner then threw an 11 yard touchdown to Gerald Christian to put the Birds up by 21. But the second half was a different story. After a Louisville field goal made it 24-7, Florida State scored 21 unanswered points, 12 coming off the arm of Jameis Winston, to take the lead. The Cardinals regained the lead on Dyer's third touchdown dash of the day, but Seminoles freshman running back Dalvin Cook's 38-yard touchdown run with 3:46 remaining put FSU up for good. "We've been there before," Winston said. "Being down is nothing when you've got heart and you persevere. Personally, we play better when we're down, honestly." Dyer finishes the day with 134 yards rushing and those three touchdowns for Louisville (6-3, 4-3 ACC). Winston completes 25-of-48 passes for 401 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions in the loss. Next up for the second-ranked 'Noles: a visit from Virginia next Saturday. Louisville Dominant in Petrino’s Return

Louisville Dominant in Petrino’s Return iStockphoto(LOUISVILLE, Ky.) -- The Louisville Cardinals (1-0) defense held Miami to 1-for-13 on three downs, helping lead the team to a 31-13 win over the Hurricanes on Monday in their season opener. It was also the first victory for head coach Bobby Petrino in his return to Louisville. "I thought it would be a real battle and we would have to work extremely hard," said Petrino. "Obviously, we made some mistakes on offense and on special teams. I thought the defense really did a great job all night long, especially on third down." The Cardinals opened the scoring in the first quarter when Will Gardner hit Charles Standberry on a two yard touchdown pass. The Hurricanes countered with 10 straight points before Louisville regained the lead just prior to halftime when Corvin Lamb went 97 yards on a kickoff return. Coming out of the locker room it was all Louisville as they scored 17 straight points after Miami closed the gap to 14-13 just four minutes into the third. The game also saw a pair of quarterbacks making their first career starts. Gardner was 20-for-28 passing for 206 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Freshman Brad Kaaya did not fare as well for Miami (0-1), tossing a pair of interceptions and going just 17-for-29 in his debut. "We did not do a good enough job protecting a first-start quarterback. Period," said Hurricanes coach Al Golden. Louisville opened their tenure in the Atlantic Coast Conference, dominating a mainstay program in the ACC. Petrino led the Cardinals to a 41-9 record from 2003-06 as head coach.  Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio
