(1) Kentucky Rolls Over Mississippi State, 28-0

Mitchell Layton/Getty Images(STARKVILLE, Miss.) -- Freshman Trey Lyles was Kentucky's spark Wednesday night.

Lyles scored a career-high 18 points in Kentucky's 74-56 win over Mississippi State, giving the Wildcats to a 28-0 record.

Head coach John Calipari claims the 6-foot-10-inch freshman hasn't even come close to reaching his full potential.

"He should have had 25 points today, but I thought he played well," Calipari said. "I still think at the end of the day he'll be the 'X' factor for us."

Kentucky's 28-game win streak is the second-longest in school history, however it's the longest in a single season for the program, topping the 27-game win streak by the 1995-96 team.

Kentucky will host No. 18 Arkansas on Saturday February 28th.

G Fiume/Getty Images(COLLEGE PARK, Md.) -- Dez Wells scored 26 points in No. 14 Maryland's 59-53 victory over No. 5 Wisconsin on Tuesday night.

Maryland's win ended Wisconsin's 10-game win streak, and possibly ruined their bid to come away with a share at the Big Ten title.

Melo Trimble also added 16 points and helped the Terps to end the game on a 12-6 run.  Maryland improved to 9-0 in games decided by six points or fewer, and they've won their last three by a total of 17 points.

"We knew we had the poise and toughness to win the game," Wells said.

Maryland will play Michigan on Saturday February 28th, and Wisconsin will look to get back on track Sunday when Michigan State pays them a visit.

Spike Albrecht led Michigan with 16 points, five assists, four rebounds, and two steals. Even though he's averaging just 6.4 points per game, he was arguably Michigan's best player against Ohio State.

Ohio State freshman guard D'Angelo Russell did all he could to keep the Buckeyes in the game. He scored 16 points with five rebounds and two assists.

Jhalil Okafor Considering Staying at Duke for Another Year

Jhalil Okafor Considering Staying at Duke for Another Year

Streeter Lecka/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- While many have Duke freshman center Jahlil Okafor penciled in as the top pick in the upcoming NBA Draft, Okafor says jumping to the NBA after this season is no sure thing.

By all accounts, Okafor has been one of the most dominant players in college basketball this season. In his first collegiate season, Okafor is averaging 18.2 points and 9.3 rebounds per game.

Okafor has been so impressive, he's considered by many as the top collegiate prospect.

“I know I’ll be in position to live my dream in the NBA or live my dream and stay here at Duke with people who truly love me,” Okafor said via Steve Greenberg of the Chicago Sun-Times. “I totally feel comfortable with staying here in college, and my family wouldn’t care one bit as long as I’m happy. They know how much I love being here.

“I love everything about Duke. I wish I could just stop time and be able to enjoy this as much as I can.”

Around this time last season, former Duke freshman sensation Jabari Parker said he was also considering staying for his sophomore season, but wound up declaring and was the second pick in the draft.

Joe Robbins/Getty Images(COLUMBUS, Ohio) -- D'Angelo Russell wasn't a heralded player heading into this season, but that's all changed as he continued his great play during the Buckeyes 82-70 win over 23rd ranked Indiana on Sunday.

Russell led the way for Ohio State as he scored 22 points, dished out 10 assists, pulled down six rebounds, and also had two steals. He had 13 of the Buckeyes' first 19 points

Forward Jae'Sean Tate also had a big game for the Buckeyes, scoring 20 points on 9-10 shooting.

Entering the game, Indiana averaged just 11.1 turnovers per game, the second-fewest in the Big-Ten. Ohio State forced 15 Hoosier turnovers, which turned into 26 points.

Michigan Guard Caris LaVert Out for Season with Foot Injury

Joe Robbins/Getty Images(NEW YORK) --  Michigan Wolverines guard Caris Lavert will miss the rest of the season after suffering a left foot injury.

LaVert suffered the injury during the team's win over Northwestern on Saturday. LaVert hurt the same foot in May, and will need to undergo surgery for a second time.

"Caris has been working so hard this season and for this to happen is very unfortunate," Michigan coach John Beilein said in a statement released by the school. "If we know anything about Caris, he will do everything it takes to not only get better, but to help his teammates during this time.

"He is a tremendous young man who I will really miss coaching the remainder of the season. However, I am optimistic he will have a complete recovery."

LaVert, a junior, was considered one of the best guard prospects in college basketball prior to the injury.

This season, LaVert was averaging 14.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.7 assits per game.

(2) Virginia Tops Boston College, 66-51

(2) Virginia Tops Boston College, 66-51

Lance King/Getty Images(BOSTON) -- The Virginia Cavaliers remained undefeated after their 66-51 win over Boston College on Saturday.

Virgina is off to their best start since Ralph Sampson led them to a 23-0 start during the 1980-1981. They've also won their first five ACC games for the first time since that same season.

Guard Malcolm Brogdon led the game with 20 points, while forward Anthony Gill was the only other Cavalier to score in double figures on the day.

Even though Virginia shot just under 43% from the floor, they held to Eagles to just under 39% shooting.

It was an impressive offensive performance by Virginia considering Boston College entered the game allowing the fewest points in the nation at 50.6 points per game.

Despite the win, it was anything but easy for Virginia on Saturday. They trailed by three points after halftime, and were outscored 14-6 by Boston College to start the second half.

Virginia leads Syracuse for the top spot in the ACC.

Kentucky Center Alex Poythress Out for Season with Torn ACL

Kentucky Center Alex Poythress Out for Season with Torn ACL

Mitchell Layton/Getty Images(LEXINGTON, Ky.) -- The top ranked Kentucky Wildcats have plenty of depth, but they're platoon system has taken a big hit as junior forward Alex Poythress tore his ACL during practice on Thursday and will miss the rest of the season.

Part of the reason the Wildcats have been so successful this season is the use of two units, almost like hockey, and Poythress was a big part of that.

"When you're coaching other people's children and these children have high aspirations and unlimited potential -- not only to do things for themselves but for other people -- I can't begin to tell you the feeling when someone gets hurt," coach John Calipari said in a release. "My own son, Brad, tore his ACL last year. All I can tell you is I was physically sick when it happened to him. I feel exactly the same way now that it's happened to Alex."

In 20.3 minutes per game, Poythress was averaging 5.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game.

Georgetown College Coach Thinks Kentucky Could Beat an NBA Team

Georgetown College Coach Thinks Kentucky Could Beat an NBA Team

G. Fiume/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- With the college basketball season tipping off on Friday, after scrimmaging against top ranked Kentucky, Georgetown College head coach Chris Briggs came away very impressed.

"Those guys are unreal," Briggs told reporters. "I told the guys in the locker room, [the Wildcats] could have beaten some NBA teams tonight. There's no question in my mind."

The Wildcats are expected to be among college basketball's elite this season with players like Karl-Anthony Towns, Aaron and Andrew Harrison, Willie Cauley-Stein, and others set for big seasons.

Despite the praise from Briggs, Kentucky head coach John Calipari was quick to dismiss his claims.

"I hear Coach Briggs got excited after the game last night. Let me be clear: If we played ANY NBA team, we would get buried. ANY," Calipari tweeted on Monday night.

Kentucky went 29-11 last season, but ultimately lost to UCONN in the National Title game. They open the season Friday against Grand Canyon.

Mike Krzyzewski Admits Top Recruit Jahlil Okafor Will Be “One and Done”

Mike Krzyzewski Admits Top Recruit Jahlil Okafor Will Be “One and Done”

Streeter Lecka/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- It is no secret that Duke freshman center Jahlil Okafor will be one of the hottest commodities next June when the NBA Draft rolls around, which is why Blue Devils head coach Mike Krzyzewski says he will likely play just one season in Durham.

"We won't have him long," Krzyzewski said. "We'll have him this year and then he'll be one of the top [NBA] picks."

Many NBA draft experts have already penciled in Okafor as a top pick, if not the best prospect coming out of college this year.

"He's really one of the great kids," Krzyzewski said. "He's 6-10, about 265. He has huge hands. So the ball is small in his hands. Part of that hurts him some because he's accustomed to rebounding with one hand, and rebounding is better with two hands. But scoring-wise he's able to do it. He's got incredible touch and really good feet."

Some recent "one and done" Duke players include Kyrie Irving (drafted first overall in 2011), Austin Rivers (drafted tenth overall in 2012), and Jabari Parker (drafted second overall in 2014).
