Report: Pats Lose Chandler Jones for About a Month Comstock/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) -- New England Patriots defensive end Chandler Jones has a hip injury that will sideline him for about a month, according to the Boston Globe.Jones is a tough loss for a Patriots defense that's already playing without defensive tackle Sealver Siliga and linebacker Jerod Mayo. The 24-year-old Jones has done well this season, leading the Patriots with 4.5 sacks. Jones also has 26 tackles, two passes defended, one forced fumble, and a blocked field goal that he recovered and returned for a touchdown. The Boston Globe also reports that due to Jones' injury, the Patriots traded for linebacker Akeem Ayers from the Tennessee Titans and will sign defensive lineman Alan Branch. The Patriots have a tough schedule coming up. Patriots Edge Jets, 27-25 Thanks to Blocked Field Goal

Patriots Edge Jets, 27-25 Thanks to Blocked Field Goal Jim Rogash/Getty Images(FOXBOROUGH, Mass.) -- In a game that ended closer than some had previously predicted, the New England Patriots look to be back on track after narrowly defeating the New York Jets 27-25 on Thursday Night Football. With time expiring, Jets kicker Nick Folk lined up for a 58-yard field goal but it was blocked by defensive tackle Chris Jones. "It's good to feel that ball hitting my hand and it's good to get the win," Jones said. "I just played it legally and did all that I could." Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was solid on Thursday night as he completed 20 of 37 passes for 261 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions. Running back Shane Vereen was the leading rusher and receiver for the Patriots as he racked up 43 yards one the ground, had 71 receiving yards, and caught two touchdowns. After a tough start to the season, the Patriots find themselves at 5-2 through seven weeks of the regular season and are in first place in the AFC East. The Jets meanwhile fell to 1-6 on the season. Jets Hope to Snap Losing Streak in New England

Jets Hope to Snap Losing Streak in New England Nick Lahem/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- The New York Jets are hoping to avoid a sixth consecutive loss on Thursday night when they take on the New England Patriots. The Patriots are looking for their sixth consecutive regular season home victory over the Jets. There has been much criticism over head coach Rex Ryan going with second year starter Geno Smith instead of veteran Michael Vick, but Ryan has faith he'll turn it around. "I think Geno is the best way to go right now," Ryan said. "That's why I'm comfortable saying he will be our starter." Ryan said this week that the team doesn't need any extra motivation and believes in his team. "It's going to be there. Both teams don't like each other," Ryan said.  "There's respect for each other, but I don't think you really like each other. We know we have to be at our very best." Geno Smith Blames Media for Poor Play

Geno Smith Blames Media for Poor Play Joe Robbins/Getty Images(NEW YORK) --  Expectations have not been met this far for the New York Jets and their fans. After a surprising 8-8 season in 2013, hopes were high entering 2014. This season the team is 1-5, currently on a five game losing streak. As the team prepares to face their division rival New England Patriots, Geno Smith spoke with the New England media via conference call.  When asked about his roller coaster play, Smith did not shoulder all of the blame but pointed the finger at the media. "For me, it hasn’t been," Smith said, according to a transcript of the call. "I think, obviously, with everything that goes on with the media, a lot of things are, I would say, miscommunicated, and then it just gets misprinted and then misunderstood. "I don’t have any quarrels with anything. The main thing is that we just have to find a way to get a win. The hardest part about it all is losing. With the effort, the time that we put in, the preparation that we put in throughout the week, coming up with game plans -- we always have a really good game plan going in -- and then obviously we haven’t executed as well as we’d like. Those things are tougher than I guess what can be said and what is portrayed out there in the media."  Smith can point fingers, but the stats do not lie: In six games this season, Smith has six touchdowns, seven interceptions and completed 57% of his passes.   Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Brady, Manning Add to Career Milestones

Brady, Manning Add to Career Milestones National Football League(NEW YORK) -- Tom Brady and Peyton Manning continue to add to their Hall-of-Fame credentials: each quarterback surpassed a career passing total in their respective wins Sunday. In a win over the Arizona Cardinals, Manning threw for his 500th career touchdown.  With a quick throw to his right, Manning completed a pass to tight end Julius Thomas for his first touchdown of the day; Manning would finish the game with four. He is now at 503 career touchdown passes, five behind all-time leader Brett Favre. Also with a win, Brady joined the exclusive "50,000 career passing yards" club. Brady joins Brett Favre, Manning, Dan Marino, Drew Brees, and John Elway as the only quarterbacks to accomplish the feat.  Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Charles Returns To Help Chiefs Destroy Patriots

Charles Returns To Help Chiefs Destroy Patriots Jason O. Wastson/Getty Images(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) -- Jamaal Charles' ankle seemed just fine Monday night. Charles, who missed the Kansas City Chiefs game last week against the Miami Dolphins with a high ankle sprain, caught two touchdowns and ran for another to help the Chiefs rout the New England Patriots 41-14. "Coach said he was going to look for me, and see how it feels during the game," Charles said, "and I guess I started feeling like myself. He didn't want to take me out." Charles finished the game with 18 rushes for 92 yards, and teammate Knile Davis had 16 carries for 107 yards in the win. The Chiefs (2-2) never allowed the Patriots (2-2) to get comfortable on offense, constantly pressuring Tom Brady, who had three turnovers -- two interceptions and one fumble -- in the loss. "It was just a bad performance by everybody," Brady said. "We need to make sure we never have this feeling again. We've got to figure out what we have to do better." Alex Smith completed 20 of 26 passes for 248 yards and three touchdowns for Kansas City, whose fans set the record for loudest outdoor sports venue in the first half, according to the Guinness World Records. The Chiefs' fans hit a noise level of 142.2 decibels, which tops the previous record of 137.6 set by the Seattle Seahawks' fans last season. Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Dolphins Hand Pats First Opening Day Loss Since 2003

Dolphins Hand Pats First Opening Day Loss Since 2003 Comstock/Thinkstock(MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.) -- The Miami Dolphins scored 23 unanswered points in the second half to beat the New England Patriots 33-20 Sunday. It's the Patriots first opening week loss since 2003. After the Dolphins scored in the first drive of the game, the Patriots retaliated with 17 straight points, the last of them coming from a six yard touchdown pass from Tom Brady to Rob Gronkowski. The two teams then traded field goals and went into the half with the Pats leading by 10. The second half was all Dolphins. Miami quickly erased its 10 point deficit by scoring on its first three drives to take a 23-20 lead. The Patriots had multiple opportunities to retake the lead, but the Miami pass rush made sure Brady couldn't get into a groove. The Dolphins clinched the victory with 3:29 left in the game when running back Knowshon Moreno ran for a four yard touchdown. Moreno, who was playing in his first game as a Dolphin, rushed for 134 yards in the win. Gronkowski had four catches for 40 yards and a touchdown in his first game back since having surgery on his knee. Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Rob Gronkowski Cleared for Week 1 Against Dolphins

Rob Gronkowski Cleared for Week 1 Against Dolphins Elsa/Getty Images(FOXBOROUGH, Mass.) -- Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski said he's ready to go for their season opener against the Miami Dolphins. Gronkowski had reconstructive surgery on his left knee during the offseason and doctors gave him the green light on Monday. "Super excited, super pumped. I feel mentally and physically ready, for sure. No doubt about it," Gronkowski said Monday. "My mentality now is I'm ready to go, I'm ready to be out there, I'm ready to hit, I'm ready to start going." Gronkowski plans on wearing a knee brace on Sunday, but doesn't see that stopping him from being productive. "It feels good to be out here now this week, preparing for the Dolphins, knowing that I put myself in the best situation the last few weeks and few months to get back out here," he said. "That was my plan the whole time -- to work as hard as I could so I'd be ready for this week." Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Ryan Mallett Traded to Texans

Ryan Mallett Traded to Texans Al Messerschmidt/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- The Houston Texans have acquired quarterback Ryan Mallett from the New England Patriots for a conditional sixth or seventh-round pick in 2016, a source said on Sunday. Mallett had served as the primary backup for Tom Brady in each of the last two seasons after being drafted in the third round in 2011. A 6'6" quarterback out of Arkansas, Mallett will enter Houston as the backup for veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick.  The Texans will waive Case Keenum in order to make room for Mallett and still have rookie Tom Savage on the depth chart. It was a rookie in New England that led to the trade as Jimmy Garoppolo completed 46 of 79 passes for 618 yards and five touchdowns in the preseason. During limited action this year, Mallett was just 14-for-26 passing in three games with one touchdown. Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Gronkowski Participates in First Full-Team Drills

Gronkowski Participates in First Full-Team Drills Elsa/Getty Images(FOXBOROUGH, Mass.) -- For the first time this preseason, the New England Patriots watched as Tom Brady connected with Rob Gronkowski for a touchdown pass during practice Monday afternoon. It was the first time Gronkowski had participated in full-team drills since having offseason surgery to repair a torn ACL.  "It's definitely huge to get it going again," said Gronkowski. "I've been working with Tom since I've been out here, but we haven't been doing it vs. the defense or anything. So it was good to be out there and 'Boom!' it was just like it was never missed before." Gronkowski has said that he plans to play all 16 games this season after playing a combined 18 games the last two seasons. There was no full contact for Gronkowski, but rather some minor hitting that included having the ball stripped from him by rookie corner Malcolm Butler. Gronkowski, 25, has been participating in some drills since the start of camp on July 24 and is planning to suit up for week one. However, there has been no word on if he will play in one of New England's final two preseason games. Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Rob Gronkowski Cleared for Training Camp Elsa/Getty Images(FOXBOROUGH, Mass.) -- New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski has been cleared to play by doctors and will be ready for training camp on Thursday, head coach Bill Belichick said Wednesday. "It's a positive," said veteran offensive lineman Logan Mankins, one of the Patriots' captains. "We were all hoping Gronk would have a good recovery and so far he has. Anytime you can have Gronk on the field, it's great." Gronkowski underwent surgery on his right ACL on Jan. 9 and has fully recovered. Gronkowski said last week that he plans on playing in all 16 games this season. "I'm always antsy to get back on the field, no matter when it is. I just want to play football. I love playing the game," he said then. The Patriots open up against the Miami Dolphins on Sept. 7. Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio
