Subban’s Slash Fractures Stone’s Wrist

Subban’s Slash Fractures Stone’s WristMark Serota/Getty Images(MONTREAL) -- Ottowa Senators winger Mark Stone has a microfracture of his right wrist, a result of being slashed by Montreal Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban in the first game of the Senators' first-round playoff series with the Canadiens. The infraction occurred at the 8:23 mark of the second period of Wednesday's game. Subban was given a five-minute major and a game misconduct.According to ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun, NHL disciplinarian Stephane Quintal said Subban won't receive any additional discipline from the league. After the slash, Stone received treatment before reentering the game. He then left the game early in the third period, returning midway through the period. Stone also said that Subban had targeted him earlier in the game."(Stone) came back as a courageous guy after being hurt," Senators general manager Bryan Murray said Thursday. "The disturbing part from our point of view is that there was a threat made before by Subban to Stone."There were two attempts on faceoffs to slash him, one connected. Then he two-handed him across the wrist in front of the net. (Stone) has been one of the top five players in the league the last two months of the year. It's a huge loss."I thought the officials made the right call on the ice, but I thought also, after knowing the extent of the injury, that something further would be considered."When Murray was asked if Stone would play in Game 2, he said that he would assume not and that Stone has no mobility in his wrist at this point.Stone played in 80 games this season, scoring 26 goals and dishing out 38 assists. Senators Fire Paul MacLean

Senators Fire Paul MacLean Len Redkoles/NHLI via Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- The Ottawa Senators fired head coach Paul MacLean Monday. The Senators made the announcement on the team's Twitter account. Assistant Dave Cameron was named the new head coach. MacLean, who is just two seasons removed from winning the Jack Adams Award, which is given annually to the best coach of the year, led the Senators to an 11-11-5 record this year before being let go. "We continue to be a big turnover team in our zone," Senators general manager Bryan Murray said during a news conference Monday. "Our goaltending has been, to say the least, outstanding most nights to give us a chance to win hockey games. The chances against our team are, some nights, atrocious. I think there's an obligation for a lot of people, the players included, to perform better than that. But the leader of the pack always is the coach."MacLean coached 238 regular season games during his four seasons with Ottawa, posting a 114-90-45 record. Daniel Alfredsson Calls It a Career

Daniel Alfredsson Calls It a Career Bruce Bennett/Getty Images(OTTAWA, Ontario) -- Daniel Alfredsson is officially retired. The 41-year-old Alfredsson signed a ceremonial contract with the Ottawa Senators Thursday, so he could retire a member of the team he played with for 17 NHL seasons."One evening nearly 20 years ago a young man in a small town in Sweden got a phone call that would change his life," Alfredsson said during a press conference. "We began an incredible new chapter of our lives in your town starting in August 1995. Our marvelous boys were born here, and we grew from youngsters into aging parents. You made your town our town."Alfredsson made six All-Star teams while playing for Ottawa and owns the franchise record for goals (426), assists (682) and points (1,108). He also scored 14 goals in the team's run to the Stanley Cup final in 2007 and served as team captain for 13 seasons. "Without question, Daniel has been the greatest player that this city has ever seen in many, many different ways," Senators owner, governor and chairman Eugene Melnyk said. "As a player on the ice, as a leader on the ice, as someone who interacted with the fans any time. He was always available. For any charitable work, he was always available. For media, he was always there. That's a rare commodity to have in an organization like ours. Being the longest-serving captain in what is really an infant franchise is phenomenal, for 13 years being our captain." Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Senators Sign David Legwand

Senators Sign David Legwand Len Redkoles/NHLI via Getty Images(OTTAWA) -- The Senators added a key veteran free agent on Friday.  Center David Legwand and Ottawa agreed to a two-year deal worth $6 million. Legwand split time with the Predators and the Red Wings last season. "David is a good, veteran center, a guy that skates pretty well, gets up and down the ice," Senators general manager Bryan Murray said in a statement. Legwand had 51 points in 83 games between the two teams after spending 15 seasons in Nashville before being traded to Detroit in March. "We just think the way things shook out for us that having an experienced center that can be a decent faceoff man, be a good defensive player, get points, was very important at this time," Murray continued. The Senators sent center Jason Spezza to Dallas on Tuesday for right winger Alex Chiasson. Follow @ABCNewsRadio Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio
