Rams Quarterback Sam Bradford Tears ACL, Out Entire 2014 Season

Rams Quarterback Sam Bradford Tears ACL, Out Entire 2014 Season

Scott Boehm/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Less than two weeks before the start of the regular season, and the St. Louis Rams are dealing with a devastating injury. Quarterback Sam Bradford will miss the entire season with a torn ACL.

Bradford suffered the injury during the team's preseason win over the Cleveland Browns on Saturday. This is the same ACL that Bradford tore last season that caused him to miss the final nine games of the season.

"Anyone that's gone through that procedure and the rehab understands and to have it happen again within the calendar year is very, very difficult," Rams head coach Jeff Fisher said. "We're thinking of Sam. I met with him this morning. He's left the building to spend time with his parents. I really can't give you any timetable as to when he's going to have this procedure done."

The Rams by all accounts have one of the better rosters in the NFC, but play in the ultra-competitive NFC West, so this will certainly have an effect on their playoff hopes.

Bradford was entering his fifth season in the NFL, all with the Rams.

Sam Bradford Hurts Knee against Browns

Scott Boehm/Getty Images(CLEVELAND) -- St. Louis Rams quarterback Sam Bradford left Saturday night's game against the Cleveland Browns in the first quarter after getting hit in the left leg by defensive lineman Armonty Bryant.

Bradford limped off the field on his own power after doctors and the team staff made sure he was able to.

Bradford received tests which showed no initial damage to his surgically repaired leg, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reports.

"I've talked to Sam," Rams head coach Jeff Fisher said after the game.

"He's fine, he's upbeat," Fisher continued.  "We'll see."

Bradford suffered a torn left ACL injury against the Carolina Panthers last October and was making his second preseason start.

Bradford was 4 of 9 for 77 yards before the injury.

Rams Defensive Lineman Michael Sam Makes NFL Preseason Debut

Rams Defensive Lineman Michael Sam Makes NFL Preseason Debut

Joe Robbins/Getty Images(ST. LOUIS) -- On Friday night, Michael Sam's dream of playing in the NFL came true as he made his preseason debut as member of the St. Louis Rams.

Sam is the first openly gay athelte in NFL history, so his pro debut was no small feat.

Against the New Orleans Saints, Sam was solid in opener. He had a tackle as well as a quarterback hit for the team.

"You know, I can play in this league," Sam said. "I can play in this league."

"He's unpolished like a lot of rookies," Rams defensive end Chris Long said of Sam. "But he pleasantly surprised you when he went out in a game situation and played pretty well."

Sam was selected by the Rams in the seventh round after a productive collegiate career at Missouri. He was the SEC Defensive Player of the Year, and now Sam will get every chance to make the talented Rams defensive unit.

Rams Release RB Daryl Richardson

Rams Release RB Daryl Richardson

Christian Petersen/Getty Images(NEW YORK) --  The St. Louis Rams have released former starting running back Daryl Richardson, helping them thin out their extremely crowded backfield.

Richardson finished the 2012 season on a strong note as a rookie.  He won the starting job as Steven Jackson's replacement during this past training camp but suffered a toe injury against the Arizona Cardinals in the season opener and never recovered.

In 2013 he finished with 215 yards and an average of 3.1 yards per attempt while playing in just eight games.

Zac Stacy received the bulk of the carries in Richardson's absence, supplanting him on the depth chart.  The Rams also drafted running back Tre Mason out of Auburn in the fourth round of this year's NFL draft.  Isaiah Pead and Benny Cunningham are the other running backs on the roster.

Richardson was scheduled to make $581,474 his season, and his release will save the Rams $558,526 in cap space.  He was claimed on waivers Friday by the New York Jets.

Rams Wide Receiver Stedman Bailey Suspended 4 Games by the NFL

Rams Wide Receiver Stedman Bailey Suspended 4 Games by the NFL

Al Messerschmidt/Getty Images(EARTH CITY, Mo.) -- With almost four months until the start of the 2014 NFL regular season, the St. Louis Rams have already been dealt a blow to their offense as wide receiver Stedman Bailey has been suspended four games by the NFL for violating the league's policy on performance enhancing substances.

The team has confirmed the suspension, and Bailey will be eligible to return to the field after the Rams' game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Oct. 5.

"I see all the negative comments! Everyone makes mistakes, I guarantee I will bounce back. My promise to my fans & #RamsNation," Bailey tweeted on Monday.

Despite the suspension, Bailey can still participate in the team's offseason program, including preseason practices and games.

After serving a limited role in his rookie year this past season, Bailey was expected to see an increased role in the team's offense in 2014.

As a rookie, Bailey caught 17 passes for 226 yards in 2013.

Dolphins Punish Don Jones for Negative Tweets About Michael Sam

Dolphins Punish Don Jones for Negative Tweets About Michael Sam

Stacy Revere/Getty Images(MIAMI) -- While many are welcoming newly drafted St. Louis Ram Michael Sam into the NFL, Miami Dolphins cornerback Don Jones is being punished by the team for his negative tweets following Sam getting drafted.

After Sam was drafted, Jones tweeted "OMG" and "horrible." He later deleted the tweets.

Sam, who is the NFL's first openly gay player, was drafted by the Rams in the seventh round.

For his actions, the team has fined Jones an undisclosed amount of money and have excused him from the team until he finishes educational training.

Jones later apologized for his comments.

"I want to apologize to Michael Sam for the inappropriate comments that I made last night on social media," Jones said. "I take full responsibility for them and I regret that these tweets took away from his draft moment."

"I remember last year when I was drafted in the seventh round and all the emotions and happiness I felt when I received the call that gave me an opportunity to play for an NFL team that I wish him all the best in his NFL career," he continued.

Jones is entering his second season with the Dolphins, and made 10 tackles last season during his rookie year.
