Rays’ David Price Upset with Trade Rumors

Rays’ David Price Upset with Trade Rumors

Robbie Rogers/MLB Photos via Getty Images(NEW YORK) — Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher David Price’s name has come up again in trade rumors with the July deadline looming, and he’s tired of seeing his name being thrown around in rumors.
“I mean, obviously I think about it,” Price told reporters on Tuesday. “That’s why I’ve been in a bad mood the last week and a half. I think about it. You guys know that. And it’s nothing I really want to talk about.”
The Rays are in the midst of a down season, and they have one of the worst records in all of Major League Baseball. The Rays likely won’t be able to re-sign their ace, which is why his name has popped up in reports as someone who could get dealt.
“I don’t have an answer for you guys. I don’t know where I’m going. I don’t know when I’m going. So there’s nothing I can really comment on,” he added.
Price is in his seventh season in the big leagues, all with the Rays. This season, Price leads the American League in strikeouts. After a rough start to the season, Price has pitched like fans are used to seeing. In 16 starts, Price is 5-7 with a 3.81 ERA.

Tampa Bay Loses 10th Straight Game

Tampa Bay Loses 10th Straight Game

Brian Blanco/Getty Images(ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.) — Rookie Jacob Reamulto drove in three runs in his Major League debut, helping Miami down Tampa Bay 11-6 on Thursday night. The Marlins completed a four-game sweep of the Rays who have now lost 10 consecutive games.
Tampa Bay took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when James Loney drove in David DeJesus with a sacrifice fly.
From there it was all Miami, scoring three runs in both the fourth and sixth to hold a 6-3 advantage.
Reamulto’s first career hit came in the fourth when he broke a 1-1 tie with a two-RBI single. He added a second hit in the sixth, giving the Marlins a 5-3 advantage.
The Rays fought their way back to within one run, utilizing a pair of run scoring hits from Matt Joyce and Jerry Sands in the bottom of the second. However, a Giancarlo Stanton two-run blast in the seventh helped put the game out of reach. Marcell Ozuna added a two-run homer in the ninth for the final margin.
Despite striking out eight batters without a walk, Jake Odorizzi took the loss giving up four runs in just five innings of work. Miami’s Jacob Turner got the win, tossing five and one-third innings and giving up five runs on eight hits.
Tampa Bay has lost 10 in a row with their last win coming against the Boston Red Sox on May 25, the last of a three game sweep. The Rays hold the worst record in MLB, sitting at 23-38, and are 14 games out of first place in the AL East.
“This team’s too good for that,” said Rays manager Joe Maddon. “There’s too much talent on this team to go through this particular moment. I’m really not into the blame game. We’re all culpable when it doesn’t go well. I mean that sincerely. It’s a good ballclub. These are good baseball players.”

Rays Place Outfielder Wil Myers on the DL with Wrist Injury

Rays Place Outfielder Wil Myers on the DL with Wrist Injury

Ron Vesely/MLB Photos via Getty Images(NEW YORK) — The Tampa Bay Rays continue to suffer blow after blow. The latest has the team placing outfielder Wil Myers on the disabled list with a sprained right wrist.
Myers suffered that injury on Friday after he collided with center fielder Desmond Jennings on Boston Red Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski’s walk-off triple in the 10th inning.
It is unknown if Myers will need more time to heal the injury once the 15 days are up.
This is just the latest set-back for the 23-year-old Myers, who was last year’s American League Rookie of the Year. Myers is hitting just .227 this season with five home runs and 25 RBIs in 53 games.
Replacing Myers in the lineup will be outfielder Jerry Sands, who hasn’t played in the Major Leagues since 2012 when he was a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Various injuries have taken their toll on the Rays early this season. The team sits at 23-34, which puts them in fourth place in the American League East.

Four Red Sox Ejected in Walk-Off Win

Four Red Sox Ejected in Walk-Off Win

Winslow Townson/Getty Images(BOSTON, Mass.) — A.J. Pierzynski hit a walk-off triple in the bottom of the tenth inning as the Boston Red Sox rallied to beat Tampa Bay, 4-3, on Friday night. The game included four ejections, all against the Red Sox (25-29), and a pair of benches clearing scuffles.
It all began in the bottom of the first inning when David Price plunked David Ortiz on the first pitch. That prompted warnings to be issued to be both teams and for Boston manager John Farrell to be ejected. Price later hit Mike Carp in the forth, clearing the dugouts for the first time. When Price did not get tossed for hitting his second batter of the game, bench coach and interim manager Torey Lovullo expressed his displeasure by throwing his hat to the ground.
Red Sox starter Brandon Workman retaliated by throwing behind Tampa Bay’s (23-32) Evan Longoria in the sixth. Both Workman and then-manager Brian Butterfield to also be ejected, making hitting coach Greg Colbrunn the fourth skipper of the day.
“When we have four people ejected and also have three people hit by pitches, and they have none, that’s a hard one to figure out,” said Farrell.
Boston would get the last laugh though. Trailing 2-0 in the fifth, Ortiz laced an RBI single to left before Xander Bogaerts doubled home the tying run in the seventh. It would remain scoreless until the tenth when Jonny Gomes walked ahead of Pierzynski’s game-winning hit. It was the Red Sox fifth straight win after losing 10 in a row.
