Ron Vesely/MLB Photos via Getty Images(SAN DIEGO, Ca.) -- The San Diego Padres have acquired outfielder Wil Myers in a three-team trade.

In a deal with the Nationals and Rays, the Padres also obtain young pitchers Jose Castillo and Gerardo Reyes, as well as veteran catcher Ryan Hanigan from Tampa Bay.

In return, the Rays receive Burch Smith, a right-hander who was drafted by the Padres in 2011, first baseman Rene Rivera, catcher Jake Bauers, a 2013 draft pick of the Padres and outfielder Steven Souza as well as left-hander Travis Ott from the Nationals.

The Nationals receive right hander Joe Ross and shortstop Trea Turner, who both come from San Diego in the deal.

Myers, 24, was acquired by Tampa Bay in 2012 as part of seven-player trade that saw Kansas City acquire James Shields.

The next season, Myers batted .293 and smacked 13 homeruns and 88 RBI on his way to the 2013 rookie of the year award.

After dealing for Matt Kemp, the Padres are expecting to improve on an offense that ranked last in baseball with 535 runs scored.

Rays Hire Kevin Cash as their New Manger

Rays Hire Kevin Cash as their New Manger

BananaStock/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) -- Replacing former manager Joe Maddon won't be easy, but the Tampa Bay Rays are confident that Kevin Cash is the right man for the job as they announced the hiring of their fifth manager in franchise history on Friday.

Cash is a first-time manager who was previously the bullpen coach for the Cleveland Indians and also served time as a scout for the Toronto Blue Jays.

"His energy and dynamic personality will fit seamlessly with our clubhouse," Rays owner Stuart Sternberg said in a statement. "We are fortunate to have such a talented individual, and Tampa Bay native, to lead our club as we strive to achieve new heights as a team and organization."

Cash will turn 37 on Saturday, and will become the youngest manager in all over Major League Baseball. He is also a Tampa native.

Maddon left the team earlier in the offseason to become the manager of the Chicago Cubs. Along with Cash, the Rays also considered Don Wakamatsu and Raul Ibanez.

He also played eight seasons as a catcher with Toronto, Tampa Bay, Boston, the New York Yankees and Houston from 2002 to 2010.

Diamondbacks Acquire Pitcher Jeremy Hellickson from the Rays

Diamondbacks Acquire Pitcher Jeremy Hellickson from the Rays

BananaStock/Thinkstock(PHOENIX) -- Dave Stewart's first major move as the general manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks is official as he has acquired starting pitcher Jeremy Hellickson from the Tampa Bay Rays.

In exchange, the Diamondbacks are sending two minor league prospects, infielder Andrew Velazquez and outfielder Justin Williams.

"I'm definitely excited to get over there to Arizona and get back to the pitcher I was," Hellickson told the Tampa Bay Times. "I'd heard enough rumors so you kind of expect something, but I'm definitely kind of shocked. I'm definitely going to miss a lot of people over there."

This ends Hellickson's tenure with the only team he's ever known during his five-year Major League career. He started off great as he won the American League Rookie of the Year Award in 2010. Despite his initial success, he's struggled to regain his ROY form the past two seasons.

In 2013, he posted a 5.17 ERA while going 12-10. He spent time on the disabled list in 2014 while going 1-5 with a 4.52 ERA.

Rays Deny Rumors They’re Interested in Moving to Montreal

Rays Deny Rumors They’re Interested in Moving to Montreal

Zoonar/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) -- Will Major League Baseball move back to Montreal? Not so fast says the Tampa Bay Rays who are denying rumors that the franchise may be interested in relocating to Montreal.

Bill Madden of the New York Daily News reports that Rays owner Stuart Sternberg has had discussions with “wealthy Wall Street associates” about possibly moving the team to Montreal.

Whether the report is true or not, the team felt it was necessary to address it in a statement.

“We are committed to making baseball work in the Tampa Bay region," the statement read. "We will do everything we can to make that happen and right now things are moving in a productive and positive direction. We have not spoken to Montreal -- or any other city, including Tampa -- about relocation at any point.”

The Rays have been one of the better teams in the American League since they made the World Series back in 2008.

Still, attendance has been below average annually. This past season, the Rays ranked dead last in Major League Baseball in attendance and are locked into their current lease at Tropicana Field until 2027.

The Expos left Montreal after the 2004 season.

Orioles Launch Five Homers in Win over Rays

Orioles Launch Five Homers in Win over Rays

Patrick Smith/Getty Images(BALTIMORE) -- Delmon Young, J.J. Hardy and Chris Young all hit home runs in consecutive at-bats in the fifth, capping off a five homer night for Baltimore. The Orioles (74-55) defeated Tampa Bay 9-1 in the first game of a three-game set with the Rays (64-67).

Baltimore had lost three games in a row, being swept by the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field over the weekend.

They rebounded with a dominant effort against rookie Jake Odrizzi. Nick Markakis and Steve Pearce went back-to-back in the third inning, starting the onslaught. All nine of Baltimore's runs came via the long ball and came after Tampa Bay took a 1-0 lead in the third.

With all the offense, Adam Jones' brilliant centerfield play almost went overlooked. The Orioles center fielder robbed Evan Longoria of a homer in the sixth with a leaping catch at the wall. Jones then fired the ball to second base and threw out Matt Joyce.

Rays Reach .500 With Shutout Of Yankees

Rays Reach .500 With Shutout Of Yankees

Tom Szczerbowkski/Getty Images(ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.) -- Just over two months ago, the Tampa Bay Rays sat 18 games under .500 at 24-42. Now, following a 5-0 win against the New York Yankees, the Rays are back even with a 61-61 record.

"Really proud of the boys," manager Joe Maddon said. "It was not easy."

Alex Cobb certainly made it look easy for the Rays who won their third straight. The righty pitched into the eighth inning, allowing just six hits in 7 1/3 innings of work with eight strikeouts. Meanwhile, Tampa Bay plated a pair of first inning runs in the first to give Cobb a lead to use.

The Rays become just the fourth team ever to get back to .500 after being 18 games under earlier. Back in 2004, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays also completed the feat, as did the 2006 Florida Marlins and 1899 Louisville Colonels.

"It started with Joe and not letting us believe that we were that team," Cobb said. "It's mind-boggling that we went through the stretch we did, but we're back on track now."
