Top QB Recruit Kyler Murray Sticking with Texas A&M

Top QB Recruit Kyler Murray Sticking with Texas A&M

Banana Stock/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Texas A&M football fans and coaches can breathe a sigh of relief as Kyler Murray, the Gatorade National Player of the Year as well as the No. 1-ranked quarterback, has decided to commit to Texas A&M.

Murray was considering other options, and even visited with the Texas Longhorns last week, but decided College Station was the best fit for him.

"Texas A&M is where my heart is at," Murray said late Thursday night. "Coach [Charlie] Strong and Texas is a great opportunity, but I felt that A&M was the place for me. Not because of my dad having played there, but just the right place for me."

"It went well," Murray said when asked about a recent meeting with Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin. "All my questions were answered. I just can't wait to get this all over with and get back to playing ball."

Murray was ranked 13th overall in the ESPN 300. As the starting quarterback at Allen High, Murray won his third straight state championship in Texas' highest classification in December.

LSU Defeats Texas A&M 23-17

LSU Defeats Texas A&M 23-17

Chris Graythen/Getty Images(COLLEGE STATION, Tx.) -- LSU and Texas A&M held an old school football game of running and defense that saw the Tigers end victorious 23-17.

Tigers tailback Leonard Fournette summoned memories of Hershcel Walker barreling over a defensive back when he charged through Aggies senior defensive back Howard Matthews for a 22-yard touchdown run.

Fournette finished the night with 146 yards on 19 carries and the touchdown.

The entire LSU offense found it's groove on the ground as the team ran for 384 yards. Quarterback Anthony Jennings contributed with 119 yards and running back Terrance Magee added 74 yards.

The game wasn't without some controversy. As Texas A&M was attempting to mount a comeback Aggies quarterback Kyle Allen lofted up a bomb that was intercepted by Tigers DB Jalen Collins. Allen heaved the ball downfield believing his team had a free play when an LSU defensive lineman appeared to jump offsides.

"That's part of what we do," said Aggies head coach Kevin Sumlin. "When we have someone in the neutral zone our center snaps it and we have a free play. We try to take advantage of that."

The officials did not throw a flag and LSU came away with the interception.

LSU finishes their season at 8-4 and Texas A&M at 7-5.

Football Texture/iStockphoto(TUSCALOOSA, Ala.) -- The Alabama Crimson Tide scored 35 points in the second quarter on their way to a rout over 21st-ranked Texas A&M on Saturday, 59-0. The seventh-ranked team in the country put up 602 total yards while keeping the Aggies from even attempting a field goal.

"I think this is as close as we can get to the Alabama football that we want to try to get from our players in terms of effort, toughness, emotional excitement and execution that we got throughout the game," said head coach Nick Saban.

Alabama (6-1) scored on ever possession in the first half, opening up the scoring on an Adam Griffith field goal in the first quarter. The first touchdown came a few minutes later when T.J. Yeldon scampered in from nine yards out. Yeldon finished the game with two running touchdowns and 114 yards on the ground.

Quarterback Blake Sims through for 268 yards, three touchdowns and ran for another score. Reserve Jake Coker also threw a touchdown pass late for the Crimson Tide. Both Amari Cooper and Derrick Henry had a pair of receiving touchdowns in the blowout.

While the offense dismantled Texas A&M (5-3), the defense was as impressive. The Aggies only managed 172 total yards en route to their third straight loss.

Texas A&M’s Kevin Sumlin Ready for Mississippi State

Streeter Lecka/Getty Images(STARKSVILLE, Miss.) -- No. 6 Texas A&M will take on No. 12 Mississippi State in a SEC West matchup on Saturday.Aggies head coach Kevin Sumlin knows his team will face a challenge as the Bulldogs will be prepared coming off a bye week."They've had a bye week. We'll see some new stuff," Sumlin said. "Rested up, they'll be ready to go"In Sumlin's opinion, the bye week isn't the only factor: Mississippi State is coming into the game red hot."This is a team that is red hot right now," Sumlin said. "Seven straight wins. Five hundred yards a game this year."However, Bulldogs head coach Dan Mullen knows that Texas A&M will present challenges for his team as well."There’s a reason they’re ranked No. 6 in the country. They’re all-around a really good football team that knows how to win and knows how to find a way to win. We’re going to have to come out and play an excellent game in every phase of the game," he said.

(6) Texas A&M Needs Overtime to Beat Arkansas

(6) Texas A&M Needs Overtime to Beat Arkansas

Streeter Lecka/Getty Images(ARLINGTON, Texas) -- With Johnny Manziel on the sidelines, (6) Texas A&M's Kenny Hill used a little "Johnny Football" magic to help the Aggies avoid a monumental upset on Saturday. Texas A&M (5-0) rallied from a 28-14 deficit to beat Arkansas 35-28 in overtime at AT&T Stadium, home of the NFL's Dallas Cowboys.

Hill threw for 386 yards and four touchdowns in the win, leading a fourth quarter comeback that included two 50-plus yard scoring passes. His first was an 86-yard strike to Edward Pope just three minutes into the final frame. Hill then found Josh Reynolds for a 59-yard touchdown pass, knotting the game at 28-28 with 2:08 to play in regulation.

The Aggies had a chance to win the game in regulation, but let the clock run out when facing fourth down at midfield. They took their shot early in the extra session, scoring on the first play as Hill found Malcome Kennedy for a 25-yard score.

That forced Arkansas (3-2) to go for it on fourth-and-one to keep the game alive, but a defensive stand by Texas A&M sealed the victory. It was the 14th straight conference loss for the Razorbacks who did not score in the final 20:02 of regulation.
