Chisenhall Hits Three Homers, Drives in Nine in Indians Win

Rick Yeatts/Getty Images(ARLINGTON, Texas) -- Lonnie Chisenhall went 5-for-5 with three home runs and tied a team record with nine runs batted in, helping to power the Cleveland Indians to a 17-7 win against Texas.

According to Major League Baseball, it is the first time since RBI was made a statistic in 1920 that a player had that exact state line.

Chisenhall began his historic day with a simple base hit in the first inning that gave the Indians (33-31) a 2-0 lead. He followed it up in the second inning with at two-run blast, upping his personal RBI total to three. Cleveland led 8-1 after two innings, chasing Rangers (31-33) starter Nick Martinez.

In the fourth, Chisenhall belted his second two-run homer of the game to give his squad a 12-4 advantage. He later doubled home a run in the sixth before lacing a three-run shot just inside the right field foul pole for his fifth hit, making it a 17-6 ball game.

"I know a day like today is kind of a once-in-a-lifetime thing," said Chisenhall. "I'm enjoying it as much as I can. I don't know the history of it, who's done it in the past."

Chris James was the only other player in Indians history to drive in nine runs in a single game when he did it on May 4, 1991 in a 20-6 win over Oakland. Chisenhall becomes the first MLB player, and fourth overall, since Fred Lynn in 1975 to get five hits, three homers and nine RBI in a single game.

Rangers Place 1B Mitch Moreland on DL

Rangers Place 1B Mitch Moreland on DL

Sarah Glenn/Getty Images(ARLINGTON, Texas) -- The Texas Rangers placed first baseman Mitch Moreland on the disabled list on Sunday.

Moreland, who was batting .246 with just two homers this season, is expected to undergo ankle surgery on Wednesday and will likely miss three months.

"It's to the point where I'm hurting the team, hurting myself trying to go out there and make something happen," Moreland said of his injury. "There's no lower half. I'm doing everything I can and trying to battle through it, but it's to the point where it's affecting me trying to go out and play. It's hurting pretty bad."

"The surgery, I tried to fight it off until the end of the year," he continued. "I knew I was going to have to have surgery. They told me you can do everything you can to try to get to the end of the year. I can't do it any more. I'm going to try to get back healthy and get ready to go."

Donnie Murphy, who is hitting .220 with 11 RBI's, will take Moreland's spot on the roster.

"He's done everything he could have done," general manager Jon Daniels said of Moreland. "He's fought through it, but it's become apparent it's limiting him."

Prince Fielder Facing Season-Ending Surgery

Prince Fielder Facing Season-Ending Surgery

John Williamson/Getty Images(DETROIT) --  If the Texas Rangers are going to contend in the American League this season, they may have to do it without slugger Prince Fielder in the fold.

Fielder is expected to have season-ending fusion surgery next week to repair a herniated disc in his neck.

The 30-year-old Fielder visited with spine specialist Dr. Drew Dossett on Thursday morning after his symptoms got progressively worse.  It was recommended that Fielder have surgery to take care of the problem. If he decides to have it, there's a three-to-four-month recovery period that would end the Ranger's 2014 season.

Fielder received a nerve-root injection over the weekend and took a few days to rest.  He was expected to return to the lineup at the beginning of the week, but he was scratched from Tuesday's game after he said he felt some weakness in his left arm while trying to hit in the batting cages.

Before the injection, Fielder had played in 547 consecutive games, the longest active streak in the majors at the time. He was batting .247 with three homers and 16 RBIs before the injury.

The Rangers acquired Fielder in an offseason trade from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for second baseman Ian Kinsler.
