The following is a news release from the City of Chubbuck.

CHUBBUCK – The city of Chubbuck is inviting residents to have a bright Christmas and spread the cheer with the annual outdoor decorating contest.

The contest is open to all residential homes and businesses within the Chubbuck city limits. Pull out your Santa, sled, reindeer, wreath and lights to prepare the most festive house on the block (or the most festive block in the city). Selections will be made in all areas of town.

Winners will be chosen in the following categories:

  • Best Animation
  • Most Colorful
  • Most Traditional
  • Spirit of the Season (2)
  • Best Commercial/Business
  • Mayor’s Choice
  • Clark Griswold Award (most lights)
  • Best Overall

This year, there is a link to vote for the People’s Choice award.

NEW THIS YEAR – The city will be giving special recognition to a street, cul-desac, or small neighborhood that has the most houses decorated or best-combined display.

Judging will be based on “curb appeal” as viewed from the street, which means only those decorations on the street side of a property will be judged. Corner lots will be judged from both streets. Judges will not step onto any property to view the back or side yards. Criteria will include:

  • Unique design and creative use of lights and decorations
  • Storyline or theme
  • Display and placement of decorations, animated objects, etc.
  • Overall presentation – (Think Clark Griswold from the film “Christmas Vacation”)

Judging will be held from November 29 through December 7. On the nights of judging, holiday lights must be turned on by 6 p.m. and left on until 11 p.m.

If you see a house, business, street, or neighborhood that you think deserves an award, email ChubbuckLightscontest@gmail.com or message the City of Chubbuck Facebook Page. Include as much information as possible, such as photos, which award you think they should win and the address. Submissions will be accepted through December 1 at 5 p.m. Winners will be announced on December 8.

Voting for The People’s Choice award will close on December 7.

Winners will receive special recognition on the city website, Facebook page and local media.
