Labor Dept. to Investigate Miner Death

(BOISE) – The U.S. Dept. of Labor will investigate the mine collapse that killed a northern Idaho silver miner. Labor Secretary Hilda Solis sent her condolences to the family of Larry “Pete” Marek and vows the department will do a “thorough investigation.” Hecla Mining Co. officials maintain Marek died in the initial cave-in. Solis told reporters that “no miner should have to die for a paycheck.”
