District 91 vs. District 93 cuts

District 91 is being forced to allocate funds in order to be in compliance with the new Students Come First law. If you talk to most teachers in District 91, they’re not fans of Tom Luna’s education laws. KIDK reports that left over grants and funding from last year will allow the district to only have to cut a total of 8 jobs, compared District 93 which is eliminating all elementary music and P.E. positions. “Technology always breaks down. I won’t. The lights turn off. I’m still working. There is a power surge. I’m still working. It takes me a second to realize that I don’t have a Smart Board, I don’t have all of the gizmos and gadgets that I’m accustomed to, but you know I am still there, and I can do my job,” said third grade teacher Kathy Cassidy. The district also adds that over 86 percent of their over-all budget is spend on operating costs for staff and benefits.
