New Graphic Warning Labels Coming to Cigarette Packages
Published atNew health warnings are coming to cigarette packs manufactured in the United States. KPVI reports that starting in September 2012, packages will feature graphic images of blackened lungs and cancer victims, similar to anti-meth campaigns. Cigarette companies are challenging the constitutionality of the new labels, calling the warnings a “government overreach.” The changes are coming after similar campaigns contributed to a reduction in smoking rates in Brazil and Canada. The tobacco companies will be required to pay for the new labels. The Southeastern Idaho District Health Department is offering help for those looking to quit smoking.
