The Idaho Falls Police Department is pleased to announce that Capt. Ken Brown graduated from theFederal Bureau of Investigation National Academy in June.
Capt. Brown now joins one-percent of law enforcement leaders and managers world-wide that have completed the rigorous and competitive 10-week academy held in Quantico, Va. Participation is by invitation only and through a nomination process. Brown attended the 245th Session.
During his special training, Brown completed studies and case work earning 17 college credits in computer forensics, managing death investigations, drugs in society, officer-involved shootings, physical fitness and statement analysis. All of which Brown said he will incorporate into the department to enhance its services to the public and police personnel. Recently, following the officer-involved shooting on June 17, Brown initiated and began implementing after-shooting counseling practices learned at the academy.
Brown also said the academy was a great opportunity to network with 247 law enforcement leaders throughout the world as they shared experience and knowledge during classroom discussion. As well,learn from expert professionals that conducted the academy coursework.  “If you have a question, or an issue, you have all these contacts with police departments throughout the world,” Brown said.  Brown also completed the “Yellow Brick Road,” the final (but optional) test of the fitness challenge. It consists of a 6.1-mile grueling run through a hilly, wooded trail built by the Marines. Along the way, the participants must climb over walls, run through creeks, jump through simulated windows, scale rock faces with ropes, crawl under barbed wire in muddy water, maneuver across a cargo net, and more.
