Rex Rammell

UPDATE: Rex Rammell was in court again on Wednesday, this time facing felony jury tampering charges. According to Bonneville County Prosecutor Bruce Pickett, Rammell pleaded guilty to a lesser, misdemeanor criminal contempt charge. He was sentenced to nine months of informal probation, a 90-day suspended jail sentence, and was given a withheld sentence, which means if he complies with all parts of his sentence, Rammell can petition the court to have the conviction taken from his record.

In a letter to East Idaho News, Rammell Stated that he:

“…will hold a press conference August 4, 2011 at 11 AM at the Bonneville County Court House to explain his decision to plead down to misdemeanor criminal contempt in his felony jury tampering case.
Rammell  will also talk about the pending investigation of Fish and Game Officer Dan Kelsey by a special prosecutor, wherein Rammell claims Kelsey falsely accused Rammell of threatening to him.  Falsifing a police report is a felony punishable up to 14 years in jail.”

Political activist Rex Rammell was arrested yesterday on felony charges of trying to influence a jury. Rammell appeared for a press conference, but before he could begin, Bonneville County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested him on a warrant. Local News 8 reports that Rammell was defiant, and vows to fight what he considered to be poor treatment from the officers. “Sit down you’re just making this worse,” one of the arresting deputies said as Rammell fought back. “This is unnecessary; I am a good citizen,” Rammell said. “I feel like they treated me like I’d just murdered somebody. There’s going to be consequences to the officers who handled this, the way they handled me and shoved me in the car,” Rammell said. “They’re wrong,” Rammell said. “I’m gonna burn the house down on these guys. I am tired of the way they treat people.” Rammell was later released after posting bail. If convicted, he could spend up to five years in prison and pay a $50,000 fine.
