Smoking In Banned Areas Is Going Unpunished

(SODA SPRINGS, ID) – The city of Soda Springs has rejected a proposal to punish smokers in public parks, and it’s leaving a local woman upset. Nichole Diemert says a resolution the city council passed in June to establish so-called smoke-free zones in the city’s five parks didn’t go far enough, and serves only as a polite request to smokers to go elsewhere. Diemert and another resident, Jess Bowman, wanted to impose fines for violators. City council members felt smokers could be trusted to respect the smoke-free zones.
