(REXBURG) – A train carrying propane tanks derailed in Rexburg last Friday, but city officials didn’t find out until well after the fact.
Authorities say four cars slipped off the tracks, two of which were full of propane. Local News 8 reports that while nothing caught on fire, emergency responders later found out about the accident through word of mouth. Railroad officials say they didn’t feel they needed to notify the city because there was no contamination. Rexburg Police Captain Randy Lewis says he would have preferred to know about the accident when it happened to ensure safety.
